hey,

this engine isnt in a fiesta, but id imagine it to be the same, but my escort with the 2.0 has a few problems...

before we start, its a 2.0 zetec, full 2.0 managment (ECU, MAF, Injectors, Fuel rail)

there seems a wierd flat spot at 2k, its recently had new spark plugs, and new HT leads... they have both done about 2.5k, also I cleaned the MAF around 2k ago aswell...

this flat spot seems to be more prominent when its under load, say 3rd gear uphill 35mph.

also, it seems to have its good days and bad days... some days it goes like hell, picks up really well, and then others.. theres no go in it at all, feels like im back with my 1.6.

also..again lol, when I first had the engine fitted, I was running it with the 1.6 ecu, injectors and MAF, and it seemed to go alot better then than it does now. it feels quicker, but theres little things that make me think it was faster back then.

im kinda hoping someone has had a simular experience and they know what could possibly be the problem.

Thanks.

im possibly having a similar problem, unlikely but perhaps. Only a 1.6 but very much has good days and bad days. Ive been directed towards a new fuel pump, or that my cat is dying.

ive had a new fuel pump not long ago... it wasnt a new one but it was a working one from another car, so i dont think thats the problem. as soon as i can find another downpipe im having a decat made up, but i dont think my problems stem from that.

keep me updated with how yours goes mate :)

sounds like your issue is pretty much the same as jason's!

have you tried it with another temp sensor or air temp sensor?

have you stuck it on a diagnostic machine?

i havent put it on a diagnostics machine, as the local place wants £50 just to diagnose the problem, and i dont have that at the moment... plus i dont wanna spend that lol.

i havent tried either of the temp sensors, but its funny you should mention that as my temp gauge doesnt work... goes all the way into the red when i put the ignition on, and then when i start the car it goes off.

also, its using rediculous amounts of fuel, the other week it cut out after 35 miles to £10 worth of fuel.... my mates m3 evo does that lol.

ouch thats a little steep!

if the escort is like the fez there'll be 2 sensors on the thermostat, top one is the ecu temp, bottom one is the temp gauge

iirc if the temp sensor is knackered it makes run rich

you tried a new lambda sensor on the fuel consumption issue?

was told about the lambda sensor a few times now, gonna take it off tomorrow and give it a clean... if i can... ill look into it.

i took it to a local guy who does diagnostics via his laptop, and he wouldnt go any further because the diagnostic machine said it was a mondeo... he wouldnt beleive me when i said it was a mondeo ecu, he thought his machinery was playing up

i think it is, a cambelt tensioner collapsed a while ago, luckily nothing got bent, it had only skipped a tooth or 2, but he had problems redoing the timing, couldnt get it right, but he eventually sorted it. it was doing this before that aswell.

i'd try the above sensors and see if they make any difference, try them from a known working car if you can or known to off a working car, saves having buy them and find they have done swwweeet fa

have you tried a different maf other than cleaning yours?

well, when we first fitted the maf, it had been in jasons shed for god knows how long, so we fitted it and i took it out for a spin and could barely beat a zetec-s, but then i got it home and i cleaned it and it made loads of difference... i may try one from a different car tho.

someone said somthing to me about a vacuum leak, recon that could be causing anything?

really not sure on that, i thought vacuum leaks caused erratic idling? eg. hunting etc

anyone remember mine on the rollers, sounds like the exact same problem. bad mis/flatspot at 2-2.5k rpm.
