my escort is fast running out of MOT and as far as i know this is really all thats left todo on the Si

here is my problem this is split.......someones told me i can get them where i just cut the old one off then a new one goes over and you glue it along a seam then stick the clips on either end (are these for real?)

otherwise how do i go about getting to it

if i undo this is the suspension going to self destruct? ie do i need to compress the spring while the strut is still in the car?

the anti roll bar nut....its just going round in circles how do i stop the ball joint rotating so i can undo it?

then i guess its just the hub nut and the whole hub will slide off??

HI M8 drop the bottom ball joint prise that old clip o nthe cv boot with a screwdriver push back the cv boot and wipe the exess greaSE in there u will fing a circlip which has two ends u need to open the circlip up with long nose pliers and then just pull the hub towards u its a bit fddly the snap ring but it will come hope this helps

so i dont need to take the whole leg off?

just the hub nut the bottom ball joint and yank the hub outwards away from the shaft?

u dont need to do either m8 where the rubber boot is held on at the back by that big clip break that off wiv a screw driver and then inside clean the grease away find the snap ring and use long nose pliers its a bit fddly bit it wil lcome and hten pul lthe hub towards u

so this pops the shaft out the hub?

i then stick the new one over it slide it up the shaft stick the shaft in the hub and re secure the snap ring

thought you need to unbolt the bottom strut clamp and lever from bottom joint, undo track rod end and anti roll bar, remove old rubber gaitor wipe away grease, as mention earlier with screw driver, or thin pliers remove drive shaft clip. pull out bottom of suspension leg so drive shaft comes out. fit new gator grease etc and slide in till spring clip seats and re-assemble.
Ive seen the other split type gaiters you mention which you just stick together and if you can get one they do work well enough to get through MOT as long as you don’t get any grease on the bit you need to glue.
also from picture in the suspension strut leaking oil or is it just the grease from the split gaiter?

WD 40 to try loosen some of the bits off althought its kinda pointless when its a nyloc :lol:

just waiting for the weather to improve think i might try get hold of a split one though

the split ones arent a bad idea...esp as the shafts have a habbit of siezing in the front hubs..i did on the other night...had to press it out..took 10 tonnes to get it to pop. ive not fitted a split one personally..if you keep the joint clean then its not too bad i should imagine..but they dont last as well as the one piece ones.

yep one piece cv boots are the best and the best method is cable ties which are supplied with them cant see the point in the glue ones :lol:

after alot of frustration and tool throwing.....

ive bought a spilt and glue one :halo:

the guy in the garage said there perfectly okay and save alot of hassel as long as you keep the glueing surfaces CLEAN

when it stops raining i shall have it on and hopefully book in for an MOT, see what else needs doing :doh:
