sorry guys have to agree with sisisisi as i have built a 2.0 zetec turbo with ferriday de-comp plate and when researching found this

which states

When using a Decompression Plate - only one head gasket must be used. All that is needed to seal the plate is a thin smear of high temperature non-setting sealant around the water & oil galleries between the 2 metal surfaces only. Let the conventional head gasket do its job in exactly the same way, as if the spacer plate wasn’t there. Don’t forget that with OHC engines it may be necessary to use a vernier pulley to allow correct cam timing settings. It is not necessary to anneal a decomp plate.


two headgaskets creates two weak points because the head torque setting are altered to an unknown quantity because of the squashable nature of the gaskets and lowers the compression ratio further than expected.

lol good choice. i had the decomp plate but never really trusted it, no real reason why. but changed to forged low comp pistons and 2.1 for peace of mind and because i want around 400bhp in the next stage of tune

IF you have to use one ( which to be honest i wouldnt as you loose alot of the "squish " area in the combustion chamber ) one headgasket is the way they were original designed to be used. The block should be decked and the decomp plate fitted to that with a sealant of a type, then the headgasket fitted to the head side.

the cheaper way to do it is 2 headgaskets, but remember thats going to lower the CR even more and you are going to loose even more of the squish ability of the head leading to a less efficent burn
