Ok, so this is the problem. a 1.6 si is the car i want, as most of you know, but insurance is gonna cost me around 1700-2000.

i dont want a little engine really, but cant afford the premiums on the 'big' engines. so, i was thinking, if i was to buy a 1.3 fiesta, what engine could i put in (biggest possible), or if i bought a 1.4 si, what could i put in etc etc. i do want to stay fiesta, are there any others that can be 2.0'd, or rst? sorry for the dodgy explanation and the stupid question, but i cant find any info on it anywhere.

Deleted your other one for you.

1.4 id say was your best option.

But you can put the 2.0l in the 1.3 engine bay, just a bit more work to do! :)

In theory you could get any engine in, just all about time and money. To get the 2.0l in the 1.3 im not 100% sure, you'll need different engine mounts, loom, brakes, SMO on Fiestaturbo did this, but with a 1.8 originally! :)

what ever car you start with you'll be putting a 2.0ltr in, right?
if that's the case you're going to end up paying the same insurance anyway. Or have i missed something lol

As Mattyboy has said, all you would need to change ANY model of MK3(or mk3.5) fiesta would be the relevent engine mounts, loom etc :)

So get a little 1.1, 1.3 and get everything else bodywise and inside it mint and how you want it, then get all the other parts you need ready to transplant the car into whatever, 1.8, 2.0ltr RSTurbo once you have cheaper insurance quote.

have you tried adding both your parents as named drivers? with your mum as additional driver one and your dad as driver 2? For some reason you get a much lower quote that way around

Some insurance companies have cottoned onto it, i tried getting a quote the other day with my mum on and it said they couldn't quote because of the relationship between main driver and additional driver, you had to be over 25. :frown:

The funny thing is, i couldn't give 2 shits about getting it cheaper, just need to get my mum on it should she need to use my car!

i pay £980 or so on my 2.0ltr fez not told insurance its a turbo yet, will wait till my 2nd years no clames, and it wont really be on the road , ether way have u got a quote on both 1.4 and 1.6 ? i found there to be about £50 diffrence, i have a civic as my 1st car and put my mum on it insurance group 12, £1200 ! if not try adding a diffrent family meber , but even if you add ur dad the age will bring it down !

but as for engines if your goin rst you could use any shell as a full doner car will be cheaper, sisisi has a 1.8 rs 1800 engine loom and ecu , we payed £40 for it so that shows how cheap it is to use other parts

Not trying to push you in a different direction but why not get a 1.2 Corsa, very cheap to run and insure and still quite nippy due to there 3 cylinder engine design.

Keep that for 1-2 years then see whats happening with insurance and cars etc.

Have you thought of a fiesta mk 3 ghia? it has the same 1.6 zetec as the fiesta but no Si badge
so it might be cheaper I don't know. Plus a 2.0 will go straight in with the same loom/gearbox
etc.

Just an idea

Emlyn

Having a car which isn't very fast is a good idea for a new driver either way.

My bad, I was under the belief the 1.2 was the 3 pot but you are correct it is only the 1.0.

With that the 1.0 is 57bhp and insurance group 1 :) it really is ideal, in hindsight I would have bought one instead of my 1.1 fiesta.

I am only suggesting it as the most sensible option, I know the corsa's aren't the best car ever and personally I wouldn't buy one, but the figures above do make sense even if its just for a few years to get the insurance down.

It makes sense to save money on insurance etc while a new driver so you get enough driving experience and save up for the car you want with the savings be it a 2.0 fiesta later.
