Hi there,
heres my problem,

i had my fiesta si for about a year and a half, i done the following mods to the engine

kent cams
chipped ecu
2.0 inlet
2.0 maf
de-cat
ashley system
fse pressure regulator
k&n

and various tweaks here and there

it was quick for a 1.6, i could happily play with the mk5 zetec-s and pretty much anything 1.6/1.8 N/A
but the car didnt really have the edge i wanted.

so i decided to go for the rs1800 conversion (it was going to be 2.0 but the fuel costs put me off)

so i got my rs1800 lump with 77k miles came with all ancilleries, was just missing the rad and the ECU

i dropped the rs1800 lump in the other day, it wouldn't run(properly) on 1.6 management with the chip so i spoke to "happypaul" who advised me to get the CULT ecu, it was hard to find , but i got one, i also got the maf to match it to, somehow.

i put the ecu in, and connected the maf, set the fuel pressure on the regulator to about 1.8bar on tickover (thats about the standard fuel pressure)

but the car is still slow (well as quick as my SI) i know this as i had a little chase with my girlfriends golf which is 100bhp

there are massive flat spots
and the inlet is noisy

does anyone have any idea's what might cause massive flat spots
the maf is cleaned, i've done the idle control valve and solenoid

i set the timing up with the engine out of the car when i did cam belt and water pump so i know its spot on.
please chuck in some suggestions
i will try them and report back

i cant believe the rs1800 lump gives out the same power as my lightly modded 1.6

currently using 2.0 inlet, (ive tested the TPS with volt meter to ensure the WOT is giving the correct ohm resistant (well the same as several cars down the scrappy :P

i've tried with and without maf
i've cleaned up all connected for crank and cam position sensors

i am using the CULT ecu

thanks for your help in advanced,

i forgot to mention, i have removed the EGR from the rs1800 lump using the ford blanking plugs and copper washers (which actually look like gearbox oil plugs lol)

when tommy g ran his 1.6 si with rs1800 engine in, he only made like 99bhp or something silly!? maybe ask him if he sorted it out in the end.

well i guess the extra torque would have been nice, also the effort of swapping all the bits over to make the 2.0 fit put me off too, (okay i can be lazy at times)
i'm using some good quality bosch leads, and the plugs are ngk platinum which ngk claim are pre-gapped to the manufactures specifications,

i guess i could re-gap the plugs though, does anyone know the setting by chance, if i remember correctly the haynes manual has it, but in a measurement which isnt on my feeler guage. i think mine is in fraction of milimetres ?

i've just checked the fuel pressure i dont know if it's supposed to be 2.0 2.5 or 3 bar, (with the vacuum hose off) my friend removed the old fuel regulator with mole grips and ruined it, so i can't go back to standard.
i've gone for 2.5 bar with WOT which is about 1.6/7bar on tick over?

(i hate the fse fuel regulator i don't recommend them at the moment)

and yes your lazy as its easy peasy to swap bits from your old 1.6 to a 2.0 engine :insanity: :P

looking on a technical note when i fitted a straight through De-Cat pipe it increased torque but lowered the peak BHP down the rev range from 6000rpm to 5300rpm, this had the adverse effect of making the top speed slower but making the driving lower down the rev range better due to the increase of mid range torque up from 114 to 136 lbft. Are you looking at top end seems slower or mid range. i think the lack of the cat had a effect on the back pressure and and pulses in the exhaust

Thanks for the Rolling road readings will121

there interesting,
yes the top end of the revs is seems really flat, like no power from 5000rpm up,
the car seems to pull through the gears slower to.
i've sat in the passeger seat and let other people drive, and well i dont feel like i am being pulled into the seat as much as before
(On my 1.6 there was power from 4k-6k it was pretty strong).

i guess i need to get my car on the rolling road, but i cant afford the £50 a session fee, anyone know somewhere that will let me have a play with there rolling road in essex?

i am starting to doubt that i have got an rs1800 lump,. the inlet manifold does have HO stamped on it, does anyone know the other signes of an rs1800 lump, appart from cracking it open and looking for the under piston oil jets.?

appart from replacing the cat, what would increase the top end? retarding the cams?

You really need to make sure everything is working correctly before modding anything.

Take the cam cover off and get the code off the cams, look online and it will tell you what cams they are, they need to be RS1800/2.0ltr cams to be an RS1800 engine, thats the easy way of checking, as that and the ecu/maf is the only difference in all the 1.8 zetecs :)

Finally sorted it

it tooks a while, thanks everyone for your suggestions

i cleaned the air tempreture sensor after spending a whole shift at work looking for a deep enought 25mm socket to fit it,
i found a 1" bit, but it was effort getting that sensor out without removing the inlet,

the maf sensor was cleaned, the lambda was changed,

and finally the main contributing factor for the loss of performance was infact the timing,
it turns out that i must have been looking at it from a funny angle when i replace the cam belt(with the engine out of the car) because it was off by about 20degree's eeps, i swear i had it spot of using a bit of credit car on the notch,

anywho, now the car booms upto 7000rpm and pulls 110 in 4th easily, it would do more but it dont wanna take it off the rev counter.
so now i need to get it on the rolling road and see where we're at hp wise.

:)

Glad it sorted!

Enjoy the revvy 1.8 engine

My max power was at just over 6100 revs, but it goes off the rev counter to about 7500 before any limiter kicks in
