Can anyone tell me what gearbox im using by the top speed in each gear becuase its really confused me for this reason

As far as i was aware the standard box found on a 1.6, 1.8 escort and 1.6 fiesta does 32 in first, 62 i second and 90 in third at 6000rpm

now the fiesta i just picked up does 42 in first, 68 in second and about 100 in third at 6000rpm, this confused me a lot, can anyone tell me is the normal for the si box as i cant remember my old one doing these speeds if not does anyone have any idea what box might be on it, thank you

Dont 4 get ur speedo is probably out a bit, but that sounds like a diesel gearbox to me.

diesel boxes turn the 2.0ltr fiesta into a proper motorway cruiser!

diesel 5th gear is going into my gearbox on the ZT just so its good on fuel on long journeys and when I dont want constant boost! :lol:

just thought i'd drag this back up as i'm wanting a new box. what car do i need to get a diesel box off? will i get good acceleration in lower gears? not too bothered about top speed really, dont get on the motorways much.

I can't imagine the derv box being as good a paul said, but hey it must be! it'd be interested to see the difference on 2 identical cars with different boxes though.

mine hits 45 in 1st which is far to long, thankfully i'd never see the need to be in 1st on track, and it sets me up for later in the gears, bwarp!

I was skeptical at first, but Ive drove the car and it isnt as bad as what people say.

Yes its gonna be a slight difference, and not great for track use as youve gotta keep it revving high, but for everyday use its brilliant, 70+mph on motorway is about 1,000revs lower than my box, which makes a 2.0ltr into a fairly economical car

When my ZT is done, I'm using diesel 5th just for that reason, but keeping standard RS1800 1-4 gears so I can accelerate as normal 8-)

onslack, the deisel box needs high revs to make if shift while overtaking (well so we have found) I am tempting him to stick an Si box on tho, to show him how much acceleration hes missing :teehheee:

the way I see it, as long as you don't choose a track with silly long straights, you just the fastest box you can get, even if it tops out at 110.

What do all the various boxes top out at?

someone fill in the gaps and add what other boxes you can use as i'm not 100% sure

Top speeds vary with the engines output.

Lets try ratios please fellas :) ... and also remember that boxes are chosen and rated by the strength of there internals in NM :)

Look first at how what torque you'll be running if you planing anything serious, otherwise when you take it out for a drive, the only specials on the menu will be cogs.........mmmmmmm lunch
