hey guys seem to have a bit of a problem with locking and unlocking my car.at the minute i have also got remote locking for my car.the problem is that i can lock the car using the keys but cant unlock the car using the keys and the problem that comes with this is when you lock the car with the keys the imobiliser sets and as i cant unlock the car i cant get it off.However i mangaged to get the imobiliser off by playing with the locking mechanism with a screw driver.the plus point is that i can lock my car with the remote and unlock it, but sometimes this plays up and locks as soon as i press unlock so this means going in through the boot which is quite imbarressing when parked in the middle of tesco car park lol .just wondered if anbody else has had the same sort of problem or knows whats wrong or maybe how much it would cost to get fixed as im dying to put my smoothed boot on but dont want to because if i put it on i wount be able to get in the car.

maybe it strikes again!

I found that i could easily lock my car but unlocking it wouldnt work. i had to use the boot as well. if i was lucky i could trigger off the central locking briefly and snatch the door open befre it re locked it self. if one door is affected the other messes up aswell.

I didnt think the central locking had anything to do with the imobilser, i may be wrong.

what i found the cause to be was a little spring inside one of the door lock mechanisms. it broke, hence not being able to open the door, as i couldnt open one i couldnt open the other as the signal/pulse whatever would say NO!

i could however lock the doors once open as the spring wasnt needed in that sense.

its happended to me twice and it would be the first thing i would look for when having lock difficulties.

remove the door trim if you can, remove the plasic shroud covering the lock, should see a little "ledge" with a hole on it, a little spring should be present if its not then feel around in the dorr cavity and it should be mooching around down there.

if you cant see it look to the other lock for reference .

chears i had thoguth that it had been something like that and my mate sed that it could be that too.however like a muppit i went and braught a brand new locking mechanism .but the problem you had sounds the same as mine and yeah i can occasionally catch it when it unlocks but sometimes not .take it springs armt to hard or expensive to fit .

the spring can be robbed from any mk3 fiesta (its around 3/4 of an inch long) and takes 2 second to fit once you have access to the lock.
