Reliable ?
Fast ? (would they keep up with Redtop Corsa's ?)
Petrol ?
Tunable ? (i would be looking for 150HP)

Mines pretty reliable, have the odd one or two probs, but then it is a 13yr old car, so imo you would get a few issues with the standard engine!

With regards to petrol, mine is on parr with the 1.6, but as said above depends how you drive it. If you race around all the time it will drink it!!

Its pretty nippy when you compare it to the 1.6 engine, i dont really race anything because imo street racing is dangerous, and your general chav's drive like w@nkers so id rather not be anywhere near them!! Also i havent ever had anything other than a fiesta, so i cant compare it to other similar hatches. :insanity:

Tuning ... i have no idea, never looked into it :teehheee:

Hope that helps :)

some say i drive like a girl, its true most of the time :teehheee:

but i do give mine some stick, i dont launch mine, never have done, so still on my original gearbox and clutch until recently when i replaced it, because i wanted to not because it broke :D

if you launch it all/most of the time or generally treat the box bad, expect to eat gearboxes, ask mattyboy

other than that the usual serviceable bits, tyres, lower arms, bushes might go

how quick are redtop's?what are they like against ST150's?

i can keep up with an ST150(on a private road) with a passenger, tools aplenty in the boot :chill: he wasn't best pleased either

not ever played with an RS2000( never seen one around this way  ) so cant comment on that one

i would be taking it to the track as its just up the road from me. Redtop Corsa's are quick i dont think my RS2000 would beat one and thats pushing 155HP i was just hoping the power to weight ratio of the 2.0 SI would be a massive advantage with a set of Toyo proxies.

Whats the best gear box to go for ? 1.8 Diesel ?

what do the corsa's weigh in at? and what bhp does the redtop push out? 150?

depends on what you want, the 1.6 box is pretty good on acceleration, but top's out at 120/125, where as the diesel box goes off the clocks  which is about 140ish i think

i've not been on a track with mine before or driven a 2.0 Si with a diesel box, well i did but cant compare it to track use

dracos is your man to ask, he got like a 6/7 sec pass at the 0-60 at FF last year and was on the track, well briefly :lolz:

will121(i think) is also a good person to speak to, as he uses a 1.6 box (i think)on his track 2.0 Si

i would of thought better acceleration would be better than top speed etc on a track

you do get through the gears quick on a 1.6 box  but i would of thought it would be better for pulling you out of the corners quicker and easier :?

thats not bad, how much does a corsa weigh?

1.8D box isnt that bad, but if your so desperate to beat a redtop use a 1.6 or 1.8 box

With throttle bodies and aftermaket management your looking at over 150bhp on the 2.0ltr engine.

But in standard form I doubt it will beat one. Why not just get a redtop corsa if your so bothered?

fez weigh somewhere between 940kg-960kg i think some sure the exact amount though
if you do the maths i think with a standard 2.0ltr zetec (125bhp/950kg) calc'd) in you'd be around 8seconds to 60....

My 2.0 Si was bullet proof and great on a track! Not that im biased but it was a soaking wet day and many a car were had by my Si, but its not gonna be super car quick

2.0 Si's got into the 7s on a 1.6 box and if you dont smash it all the time the 1600 clutch and box will last

My 2.0 was mondeo deep ecu ran with Si loom, mondeo 280mm brakes, lowering springs, RS1800 manifold and 2.0 sensors (MAF etc)

It was only 126bhp in the end but it was a bloody good laugh and a stripped out 2.0 Si weighs here and there about 900kg, not sure how much a redtop corsa weighs over the 1.4 version

an exhaust, filter and de cat on its own will only get you about 130 with a strong engine, if you wanted to up that to about 150 which would see you with the redtops, you'd probably want a set of cams and aftermarket management, and for a little more on top some throttle bodies

Id like to have a go with a corsa 2.0 on a track, i was goin round faster than a 2.0 redtop nova on the day and i found the fiesta handled brilliant but the driver does come into it aswell lol

well if your holding off nova redtops surely they are about the same weight as corsa's.

Just to clear up about the Corsa.....

The red-top engine is 130bhp standard, but were also used in the later GSi trim utilising 150.

Vx engines tend to outperform the manufacturer stats as a rule of thumb, particually the Red-top (denoted by a red rocker cover) which uses a cosworth designed inlet :)

Unfortunately the Red top is very very tunable.
You can see past 200bhp before looking at throttle bodies.

If you're gunna be racing a particular car, i'd find out some more about it ;)

Im half expecting novas to be slightly lighter but i havent the figures, but it was bloody good fun, and cheap too

My si was £500, ECU £40, 280mm Brakes and 2.0 engine £195 ,RS1800 manifold £20

probs about £750 for a 2.0 Si

Sorry forgot youre key points

Reliable?

Very if treated correctly, oil changed often with filter, keep an eye on youre levels, try and keep em cool!
My Fiesta si spent 4 hours thrashing round brands hatch, 4 hours, and we had 0 faults, nothing, we took tons of bits in case but not a thing, we couldnt believe it, but treat it right and youll get the rewards

Fast?

Relatively, they take longer to rev thatn the modern Duratecs like in the ST because of a heavier flywheel, something that can be sorted for a hundred pound or so if you wanted, my 2.0 Si and indeed terry's (onslack) were both 126bhpish and they could keep up/ infront of my ST (154bhp)
Not sure about a redtop corsa though, in a straight line both standard my money would be on the redtop, but round the bends not sure

Petrol?

My car when converted from 1.6 to 2.0 when driving normally got near as makes no difference the same mpg, simply because the 2.0 moves the fiesta with less effort where as you have to thrash the 1.6 to make it shift, so i did about the same fuel about 300 miles to a tank if nice

Tuneable?

Ah, well not as easy as a redtop or modern duratec inmo, but theres potential but if you want HUGE gains look for forced induction, N/A route youre gonna be restricted to a max of 200bhp with lots of £££
I would say you can get 150bhp fiscally out of a 2.0 conversion, youd want to find a nice healthy engine, rebuild and port at the same time and get stuff done ready for rebuild, if you know a few people it shouldnt break the bank to bad

You can tell i have nothing to do by typing all this out eh? :lolz:

anyone who says the derv box isnt as good as the 1.6 box is wrong. Even though it may be your opinion, and you cant be wrong in the world of opinions, youre wrong.

I abused my fiesta day in day out when I had it on the road and was allowed to drive, and it hasnt missed a heartbeat.

I launched my fez many a time with a good launch, and as terry said got a sub 8 (7.6?!) 60 time at FF, with a poor (imo) launch. - Takeup is fantastic, as is overall accelleration. Derv box holds gears longer, so when soemone is chaning gear, youre still pulling away (as proved side by side with ade - 2.0 1.6 box vs 2.0 derv box).

Track was fantastically quick - until the marshall kicked me off for the fuel i was leaking lol

and I have comfortably kept up with a redtop corsa and a pug 205 1.9 GTI (although i had to really push my car really hard for the latter!)

i would say 80% of what happens is driver related, sitting at 6.5k rpm all day, for example, WILL break your car, just be smart about how you drive. Fast isnt drivign hard, fast is getting where youre goign quickly, and not feeling like you were gonna die all the way through the drive.
