I WAS ON MY WAY BACK FROM BRISTOL ON FRIDAY IN MY FSI TAKEING A NICE CRUISE BACK WIV THE MISSES I WAS JUST OVER A MILE AWAY FROM JUNCTION 17 ON THE M4 AND MY CAR LOST POWER SO I WAS DOING 50MPH BEHIND THIS LORRY I PULLED OUT TO OVERTAKE IT PUT MY FOOT DOWN AND STILL NOTHING I DROPED IT INTO 4TH and the engine would not rev passeed 3000rpm so i tucked back in behind the lorry and there was a big bang with alot of smoke and flames COMING OUT OF THE BONNET I PULLED ONTO THE HARD SHOULDER POPED DA BONNET AND THE LORRY DRIVER WHO I WAS BEHIND PULLED IN ASWELL AND PUT THE FIRE OUT LUCKLEY HE PULLED IN COZ I WAS GONNA GET THE MARSHMELLOWS OUT COS I DIDNT HAVE NUFFIN TO PUT IT OUT WITH. SO NOW I GOT TO GET A WHOLE NEW ENGINE BUT IT GIVES ME AN EXCUSE TO PUT A 1800 OR A 2.0L IN IT NOW WHAT CAR WILL BE BEST TO GET A NEW ENGINE FROM AND WHAT MK. A MONDEO OR ESCORT I DONT WANT TO TURBO IT YET.

HOW EASY IS IT TO TAKE THE ENGINE OUT AND DROP A NEW ONE IN?
IS IT A POSSIBLE TO DIY?
HOW MUCH WOULD A GARAGE CHARGE?

most likely the engine detonated then m8

simple to drop a 2.0 engine in keep all your 1.6 bits and transfer on to the 2.0 sump alrantor inlet manifold water pump etc

sorry to hear that mate

i would go for a 2.0 and just look at these links

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4855

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=122&start=0

but for ease if you can get hold of a full rs1800 donor car or the engine, wiring loom, ecu etc it might be easier that way
