Hi guys,
I've just bought myself a '94 si with the 2.0l mondeo conversion but i'm having trouble with it allready!! sometimes it wont start, but then i can leave it for a sec and it will! first thought was battery but then it started after so that kind of rules that out.
maybe starter motor on way out? or could it be the head gasket?!?! i'm scared!!
Also my acceleration in the lower gears isn't as good as i was hoping, plenty of pull in 4th but struggling a bit with initial acceleration in 1st and 2nd.
oh - and i have no money so taking it to a garage is out of the question!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Steve

sounds like the starter to me, mine use to do a similar thing, i would turn the key and nothing then sometimes a click noise

started getting the battery light on, replaced my starter( was going to do alt as well, but after alot of hassle i didn't bother) and not had an issue since

what's your top end like? kinda wont do past 120 ish of a private road? or can go well over that?

do you know what box is on it?

well i only picked it up yesterday but happened to come across a really long private road on the way back ;) (i think some people call it the m6) and yeah it topped out about 120. i'll try swapping out the starter motor and see if that does it. any reccomendations on which to use?

sounds like a 1.6 box, but cant be 100% tho

cant think why the accelleration is a bit pants in the lower gears tho, mine seems to go well  get through the gears quite quickly tho :red:

if you can get a 1.6 Si one thats what i've used and many others with 2.0 Si tend to use, i think others fit and work, but i tend to stick with stuff i know works

edit:- could you resize tour sig to 400x100 :chill:

if not just turning over, sounds like starter. just had same problem got a reconditioned Si exchange one for £50 and seems to turn over the 2litre a treat. as earlier mentioned the acceleration in first and second may not appear that impressive as with the 1600 gearbox its not in any gear long enough to get any real pull, however 3-4 & 5 pull rearly strong, if looking for quick 0-60 time may be try starting off in second.
also would think its Si gearbox as mine tops out at about 120.

clicking noise indicated nakered battery or solenoid and starter motor when u go to start it does it sound like a motor is running if it is then its the bendix sticking as for accelration when uget to 4th gear do u get a pinking noise like spark knock thats down to worn plugs and leads also replace the air filter and make sure the cars plugs are not white cus suggests its running lean
