..was speaking to thumbs at fitp when some bloke came and randomly announced:
"Never try to turbo a zetec engine"

I over-heard most of the conversation, and he explained how the new pistons you buy protrude by at least 2mm, and even with a custom build copper head? they were still sitting too high.

Then he went on to explain some other problems and I lost interest as a turbo'ed zetec really doesn't interest me.

A turbo'ed V-tech vvt engine would though

if you dont know what you're doing and you set out to try and turbo the zetec, its a risky move. if you've spoke to the proper people in the know, the name that crops up most if Ian Howell of Fiesta Frenzy, then these people can push you in the right direction. OR if you throw your wallet at them, they can build you an engine to your spec and your budget

Charisma Dave from fiestaturbo.com has a Ian Howell built zetec and its pushing well over 300lb ft of torque

a budget of ?2000 is tight, but if done in stages can be attained

I tried the turbo route and failed due to funding, with that if you do want to try it a I have a good t3 turbo, cooler, loom ecu and exhaust with t3 downpipe which i want rid of.

The best engine to use is the 1.8 zetec really as you can use a decomp plate and the pistons will handle it where the 2.0 pistons won't.
