i got a m8 with a 2.0 fez and he is on his 3rd engine this year 2nd gearbox it never seems to run nice are they just crap and unreliable or what ?

As long as it's looked after then it should be fine. Zetecs aren't a high performance engine though.

I think the problem is most likely with your mate, not the engines or gearboxes.

Its how you drive it and how you maintain it, hense my 1.6 gave up because i never looked after it, the 2.0l engine never let me down as i looked after it, BUT i did Frape the fook out of it hense why i went through 4 gearboxes in about 7months! :D

If you look after it and don't be stupid with it then there Good strong engines! 8-) Look at Terry he's still on the Si box after a year, i killed mine 1st night out! :lolz: :teehheee: :squint:

I have got to say I eventually gave up on mine due to reliability, but as said it is partially down to luck of the draw.

I go with the idea of the more you mess with things the are likely you are to have a problem, now a 2.0 comes into the highly messed with category.

On the other hand when it was running I loved it and if I didn't have so many problems then I would still be driving it now. :)

Its all down to condition of the engine and how its used or abused.

I fitted a brand new clutch in my old R5 GT turbo and killed it before the day was up.If i hadnt ragged it to buggery it might of been fine.

hes on about mine lol, nope dude as u no mine is now mint :D just the shit engine i put in it the 1st time and the 1st engne was still the 1.6 , as for the gear boxs the si one is fuckeedddd lol the s2 one is mint agen no probs

The key to the old zetec reliability is regular oil changes with the correct oil, correct plugs too

Mines revs to 7300rpm on basically a rebuilt standard bottom end, and its been very reliable in 3 years of track driving, although Ive fitted a 10 row oil cooler , and Bailey breather to help matters a little

Whats he doing to it, is he ruining the bottom end through oil surge or is it the head through overheating, hes defo doing something wrong regardless
