The weather was good on thursday and friday, so out came some Tools, axel Stands and couple of trolley jacks. I've no 'during' pics though as i prefer to simply get on with things.
A couple of things had been bothering me about VNT, so whilst i still had YUM sat on the drive i raped it a little more for parts. Off came the gear linkage, and exhaust. VNT has been swapped around a bit since coming on here, but basically the gear linkage was shot by the time i got it from JTS, The lever felt really limp and wouldn't centre in neutral, causing me to miss 3rd gear alot. The ehxhaust also sat about an inch from the floor and made some cringe worthy noises over the speed bumps in my area, and ramps in multistorey car parks etc, so i swapped the stainless mongoose for the pattern mid section from YUM, it now sit's where it should. Also it had been modified for an aftermarket back box, so i was able the to keep the 3.5" mongoose tip, although i'm undecided on whether to go subtle and put the 3" magnex on, opinions?

The car now feels 10x better to drive Gear changes are swift and smooth, and i can get over bumps with ease.

Looking good dude. My ahsley syetm sits like that as well, but just decided I couldnt drive with it like that, so Im gunna get another bracket welded on, suppose its just where the pipe is heavy.

I think the problem with the exhaust is that the hanger is on the wrong end of the central silencer. Need another one welding on really, like fletch says.

I've been on the lookout for a bonnet since day 1!

Yeah that exhaust was a pain in the arse the whole time I had it, had to re-position it every 2 weeks lol. And that bracket was put on the day before you bought it, the other one had warn through from speed bumps Lol.

Missin' her soo much.. Drivin round ina friggin Ford KA at the mo! But 1.9 205 gti time ina few weeks

Btw, I hadda RST bonnet for it as I was plannin on gettin it done just before the engine went pop. Its got no vents and needs painting, and not too sure where it is..Could try n dig it out if ya wanted? Just a thought anyways....

Lol, i had fun with the brakets too! At the Cat and back box the disentegrated due to rust, and that one in the pic had about about 2-3mm left on it. It's left it's mark on the speed bumps leading to my house though

Bonnet sounds good actually, Vents pop up every so often on ebay. PM me with a price if poss including P&P, though i may not be able to buy unitl june TBH, as i need money my holiday at the end of may.

lolz, at driving the car Ka, at least the Volvo was big, and i kinda like estates somehow. GTI will be fun! You'll have to put pics up when your sorted.

I've done a few things gradually since my last update, So here it is all at once.

New Bonnet, colour doesn't actually match when you look close, it's darker and doesn't seem metallic, but it was cheap and looks much tidier than the last.
Look closely and you'll find colour coded mirrors.




260mm Brakes, Afterr stripping th blue paint from the calipers, i found a factory gold coating underneath, which inspired my choice of gold paint for them. I'm pleased and glad i didn't go with the usual red.


Black drums = better than rust


Also had a new pair of Toyo Proxes T1-S put on the front, which had to be bought from ebay, as they're being phased out. I've matching rubber in all 4 corners now, which i don't think the car has seen for a while.

Clutch cable went yesterday So had fun changing that after my towed me home, Took about and hour, which i didn't think too bad for my first time, including removing the replacement from my last Si M53 YUM. Simple job just really fiddly!

Lets hope this one lasts.

So far it has the following parts from M53 YUM on it.

Engine
Gearbox
Passenger sunvisor (lol)
Central Locking
Electric windows
Gearlinkage
Exhaust midsection
Clutch cable
Rear tyres
