its a rising rate fuel pressure regulator.

basicly the less vacuum/more boost the engine is making the fuel pressure rises over standard.

standards a 1:1 rate
FSU PBV are 1.7:1 rising rate


hope that makes sense

Common misconception im afraid :)

It doesn't raise the preasure, as the ECU doesn't allow it.

The advantage of having a higher rated FPR is that over the years, its flow rate decreases.......having a higher rating means that it takes longer for the aftermarket one to start restricting the standard flow rate ;)

both spray pattern and flow will change yes,

and yes, when lambda see this it will cut back injector duration. but, cars are only lambda controled when under a certain rpm and under a certain throttle postion.

the whole point of the PBV is that it dumps more fuel in. a bad idea if you ask me.

In most cases a pump will outflow by nearly double what the standard injectors can flow,

I agree with you when you say the ecu will learn, but only when under closed loop control, after that it refers back to a map where the injectors pulses are written and fixed


Lets refere to a cossie ( as i know the specs lol ).

standard is 3.5bar fuel pressure, which is rising rate governed by absolute pressure.

so if you run 1bar of positive pressure, pressure in the fuel rail will increase by 1bar. the reason it does this (not for you woodsy, for the people that dont no ) is there will be 1bar force on the spray end of the injector, therefore restricing the flow of fuel. up the fuel pressure with the boost would even things out.
standard cosworth FPR are 1:1 rising rate, so for every extra 1psi boost the fuel pressure will rise the same.

the FSE PBV is rising rate, so the pressure increases more than boost ( or increases more than vacuum decreases ).


In basic, all they do is make the car run rich when NOT under lambda control

Good point, but the FRP restrictions are altered on turbo cars, were MAP can be no greater than 1bar for NA, as aposed to turbo's motas where MAP is also less linear as is more fuel is quickly drawn in on boost!!
