You know how you start one of those 5 minute jobs....

Started having a look at the headlights about 1, found i was missing the two full beam fuses, so i thought handy i have a car of spares sitting here, swapped some of the fuses over and now the main beam comes on with the ignition regardless of whether the lights are switched on, they are just permanently on. So, i thought maybe the relay is knackered? nope. Okay maybe the stalks? Nope. Started putting it all back together, had the ignition on as my mate was trying to pikey fix the radio as all of the wires just end in insulation tape :shock: and the main beam turned off. woo. Except then smoke started coming from the stalks dammit. So ive taken the fuses out again and put the originial set of stalks back in. Anybody have any ideas why its shorting out at the stalks and not the fuse? Btw considering the wiring anything is possible. Also the intermittent slowest wiper speed doesn't work with either set of stalks. *sigh*

On the other hand ive got the back box off of WGS, just waiting for it to dry out so i can get under it properly as i dont like getting wet :homo: Depending on weather springs and the rest of the exhaust will be off tmw woo.

fookin hell.....sounds like you need a degree in physics to sort that cars wiring out...is this the same guy u bought WGS from?


maybe u should try replacing the whole cars electrics with that of WGS?

yeah its been wired by the same guy, wgs is pretty bad but not quite this bad :( Will be a learning experience lol and ive spied these at the garage where the car is atm...

small update atm, i.e. no piccies. Ive swapped the cat-back exhaust over from wgs which looks a hundred times better than what it had on it. Sounds nice too :) Which means i have a good condition cat-back for sale supposedly less than a year old, will see if i have any history for it. Not at all rusty :) £50 but open to offers as always.

Anyway as the further i delve into the wiring the more shocked i become the only real solution is to get the dash out and take it all to pieces to see wtf all the little extra bits of wire do. and where im missing bits. Basically its just a mess of insulation tape :( But i was thinking, as im taking it all out anyway would it be just as easy to replace it with a mk4/5 dash and loom?

Any input as always guys :D

An alarm has been wired in at some point but clearly not by a profesional :p, loads of it is left in the car but i have no key fob so i asume it doesnt work, theres just bits of wire everywhere :(

at least with mine being so dirty it hides some of the scratches / rust and dents. New exhaust looks much better than the old one if a little big. Lifted the bonnet up and there was a bit of steam coming from the top left corner :? which is slightly concerning to say the least, oh and my power steering fluid is leaking quite severely :(

Right, my advise to you is...

Get a whole wiring loom ffom somebody else scrapping an si on here or ebay, or find an si in the scrappers.

replace all of the loom with a standard item.

this will save alot of hassle trying to repair a bodge job!! trust me :lol:

I will say no to the mk4 or 5 dash's but go ahead if you want that look.. you will need to change a few wires for the mk4 clocks to work, and i think you need to change something to do with the heater also. then you would need mk4/5 door cards to cover the gap at the sides of the dash, as the mk3 doorcards dont cover it :)

Those wing mirrors are officially useless :lol: great if you want to look at yourself or the ground though!

It used to be an 1850 until the engine "accidentally" gained another 150cc. Pulls great for a 35 year old car and kept up with the si no problem until corners were involved :rolleyes:
