Cat C is when the cost of repair exceeds the value of the vehicle and Cat D is when the cost of repair is approaching the value of the vehicle, normally over 60% of the value of the car. Cat A is a complete burnout, chassis must be crushed, Cat B is when spare parts can be taken from vehicle but chassis must be crushed.

I'm obviously slightly biased as my dad deals in Cat C/D salvage cars, but I have no problem with them.
A few of the cars my dad has had amaze me that they have been written off.. He had a 02 Polo the other week, 55K and was imaculate..Had a dent in the front wing that literally could of been repaired, and was a cat C! My first car was a 306 that was a cat C, I got it when I was 16 and repaired it for my 17th birthday, never had a problem with it and was a brilliant car (untill I wrote it off :lol:

)
The whole "Id never touch a cat c/d car" brigade really annoy me, as at the end of the day, you're getting a car normally 20/30% cheaper than retail which is 99% of the time completley fine!

theres a program on sky where they fix cat c or d cars and fix them up and get a sva test on them afterwards i think its either presented by dominic little wood or mike brewer one or the other :lol:

I'd buy a Cat D because its unrecorded, doesnt show up on MIAFTR/HPI checks or the V5 so potentially wouldnt affect the value or ability to sell on.

Theres so many people who dont do the neccessary checks on cars before they buy them though, i've had so many policy holders on the phone ranting and raving because i've knocked hundreds of pounds of their cars value because its a previous write off. When will people learn. :rolleyes:
