it has been proven that 1.6 engine does respond well to a four branch and custom inlet takes the restriction away and puttin bigger maf on rs1800 also the rs1800 throttle body has taken the 1.6 engine upto 117 bhp and prven at a roling road tune shop in a kit car so it can be done

thats good figures from 1.6 zetec but again im sure a rolling road graph would be good to see.

but

- a 4 - 2 - 1 manifold for a zetec, start from like 130 quid, then custom inlets, etc = £££££
- 2.0 engine, 30 - 100 quid, bang it in and bobs your uncle fannys your aunt your done.

insurance is prob cheaper with 2.0

which would you choose?

its the insurace costs of a 2.0 i suppose for most ppl so they use a 1.6 and maybewanna keep the original engine and wanna try somet diffenret oeveryone else

Id tell insurance, I really don't think that it is worth the risk, chances are they wont check, but if youve been in an accident and someone has been maimed for life, and your insurance is void, your fooocked. Youre gunna have to pay out your salary for the rest of your life to that person and their family. My mum was hit by an uninsured driver(which you may as well be if you havnt declared a 2.0 litre), wrote of a brand new car, and it caused absolute havoc for my family, took 6 years to get a minimal amount of compensation and caused some real financial difficulty.
