looking into these now, as i really like my 106 a lot, apart from the complete and utter lack of power. first off, would anybody recommend them? I was thinking about rallyes, but they seem a lot more expensive for not a lot extra. If i did get a gti, plans would be strip it inside, white compo's/ anthracite 205 1.9gti wheels dependant on which colour i get, usual k+n + pugsport. what sort of pace would that be? i have been told that you will be getting sub 7 second 0-60s with that, but im a bit doubtful tbh. And the most important bit... can you get a bit of rear steer going on as easily as my 1.1? best bit about the whole car ![]() |

After owning an Xsi, and driving a 1.1 106 weekly, along with borrowing scott's 106 gti before for a few weeks when I was car-less, I can honestly say that driving a GTi is a totally different world than a 1.1. It's like a different car. The Xsi is again totally different from 1.1 still, but with lack of PAS and not as short a steering rack, it's not as easy to lift off and oversteer as an Xsi or standard 106 compared to a GTi. |

I say this a lot but... Save your money and buy a Saxo VTS. It is the same car but cheaper to buy and slightly cheaper to insure (in my case anyway). Also my Saxo was proof that a none chav Saxo could be a beautiful car to look at. As for recommending one... HELL YEAH... ![]() |

The difference is looks mainly, outside as you will know, difference dash. Overall they are the same car, just the Saxo has a poorer rep. I would argue the Saxo is better looking if done right: ![]() |

Just don't lower it too much, it'll eat driveshafts due to being sat at silly angles. |

The Rallye's a real drivers car ![]() Plenty of ex or current 106 gti owners on here, so when you find one, post a link up and we'll have a E'gander. ![]() |

Have to admit, I'd love an S2 rallye with PAS over any other 106... Typically the rallyes, xsi's and gti's are all the same power wise I'd say though the "official figures" and what they say forums may differ. And although I say the gti's make a nice sound (lovely), the 8v engines sound more insane (sexy). S1 rallye's have gone up in price lately from what little I've seen, and I've always thought the S2's are overpriced. ![]() linky: http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/TU3.htm |

well after having a good look, the vts's dont seem any cheaper, and the rallye's, although much better looking, seem a bit too much also. gti it is! all i want is a standard one, that i can build on. hard to find a good one though. |
