1996 Renault Laguna 2.0 16v Estate

Right, was driving with kirstys mum to football training and the car was fine, no problem ran sweet came out afterwards and it won't start

its like a clang when you turn the key

theres power getting to the starter but it won't do anything

it won't bump start, or jump start either

any ideas?

the starter was replaced 2 years ago, and the main lead for the starter was changed in january

It's French so I'll point you first to an auto-electrician

ah i was hoping its someething simple as kirstys mum has not alot of money, is going through a divorce with a waynekerr , has a baby on the way as kirstys sister is due any day now and needs the car

Sounds like the starter may have seized a bit. I know it's an old trick, but try whacking the starter with a hammer, you might get lucky and it will free it up, and in which case you'll know it's the starter.

poor laguna though, its done 121,000 and its had to put up with 4 kids over the years, maybe its had enough

Are you getting a spark? If you can then you can rule out ignition. Could the immobilizer be doing something?

Re: new car. Get a Toyota Avensis. Been recommended by a mechanic. He said it's an awesome car.

Yeah, check if you're getting any sparks, arc it to your tongue or something metal to see

Check fuses for fuel pump, can you hear it prime? Just go and fettle about with it

and fuel pump is priming, can hear that

its just i am as mechanically minded as a sponge

An hour? Ahh well no wonder. The French mice under the bonnet have been left for way too long. They've clearly trotted off to the le boulanger to get a baguette!
