Any known/major niggles/problems to look out for? As my sister is intent on buying one, and i want to make sure she gets a decent one (price of about £2000) not going to happen for a couple of months but i would like to be aware of any problems/faults

The TU5JP 1.6 8v found in the VTR is a strong engine, work well up to and some have gone behond 200k miles.  Providing there serviced regualry.Timing belt should be done around the 70k mark, but if its not done its not a biggy, haggle the price and DIY it, 1hr job at the max. Try and get a later model as they came with a 98bhp engine as the early came with 90bhp. Rust in the engine bay is common on 106 and Saxo's so don't be surprised if there is some in there, underneath and on the panels there should be non, if there is, ask questions why there is, most likely poor crash repairs. Parts are cheap for them and easy to get hold of. Gearboxes are prown to have the syncromesh kill its self, but you can pick up a box for around £50. Chasis wise, everythings pretty strong, drop links are common repairs as are top mounts and engine mounts, but all can be picked up cheap from your local factors. The biggest problem with the VTR is that its insurance friendly for 1st time buyers/boy racers, so will have been ragged to death, but there is a few old lady owned ones out there and 2k should buy you a pretty good example. wow, thanks for that  comprehensive detail, i lke  i am wary of the ones that have been ragged to death shes adamant that she wants one that has been lowered already  but i said there was a higher chance of it being ragged, best to buy a standard one and lower that and i will if i need more info cheers |

Id always say, buy standard the mod yourself, unless they have recipts from places you'd trust (not from his mates dads brothers back street garage) as you never know to what the standard of work has be done too! Lowering will cost around £250ish, for somoeone to lower it on just springs and to match the Torsion bar. Marks Gti is on just springs and that handles well!

Just make sure it's got decent tyres on it too, made a hell of a difference too mine. Don't know with the saxo's but on the 106's the sunroofs commonly leak, so i'd get one without. |

yeah sunroofs are v leaky. french build quality! also watch out for the power steering pump. they have a tendancy to fail and r expensive to fix so worth asking if its been replaced. |

i tried talking her out of it, as she is only 18 and currently drives a mk3 1.4 fiesta but she wants one, and i've had enough of arguing with her and causing a shitty envrioment in the house (another story ) i would slap her but may cause troublei just pray she dont get a chavved up one or bleat on how her is quiker then the xr3i when i couldnt care less

i can defend this fiesta its tidyish, (minus the pink shite all over it, but that can be removed )no rot on filler cap, just a bit of seriously faded paint k reg 10/11 months ticket tax 3 door blue 100,000 miles only problem is, the cvh is going through oil at a rate, through a mix of leaks and burning it good on fuel though, handling is terrible brakes are crap

I love it when people defend fiesta's, joking or not, and mention that it has minimal rust issues. my T reg fiesta mk4 had at least TWICE the amount of rust than my L reg xsi and R reg gti-6.Basically the fiesta your sister has is well on it's way to becoming a bag of nails.

hey i just like fiestas for some reason and well, as the engine is oil burning, yes it is it would look respectable with agood clean and the pink removed, but that wont change the oil problem
