Hi guys

i can't make my mind up what to do with my car. I'm wanting to save money so i can get a house so i'm looking to save where ever possible this is where my car comes into it. i currently paying £25 a week on petrol just to get me from work and back currently averaging 29mpg, then i have insurence which is about £40 a month and then there's tax or if anything breaks. so here's my problem i'm thinking either getting a smaller car lower insurence, better tax better fuel encom. Or getting mine remapped which should help the fuel.

or theres is an option 3 get a better paid job which would be idle but not found one for a while. so what would people do.

id keep the car chief.as soon as you sell it and get a house you can wave goodbye to having a nice car for atleast a year. 25 squids aint bad either.id be happy with that!

The car will be the biggest money pit that you have. Go figure.

Don't waste money on a remap for economy. it's all well and good saying you'll get a small car like a yaris but can you really see yourself in something with a lot less grunt? I know i'll be peed off when i have my crap runaround. You only pay £25 a week though!? how many miles do you travel and how much traffic is there?

£25 quid a week is fek all i spend more than £60 a week on fuel to get to work and back but then my petrol is about 20p more expensive than the mainland

I guess £25 a week don't seem much but it goes on how much you earn really and what else is going out. So the remap would be for me aswell also been thinking of getting a bike and cycling to work and just use the car for fun. it's about 20 miles a day

to be honest you wouldn't be able to save much on any car that would be worth while. If you can sell and buy something cheaper then that's the way forward, but what sort of different figures would a remap give you?

having said that 29mpg isn't the best, but if you only do 20 miles a day your car is no doubt only warming up near the end of the journey. derv's are better on colder shorter journeys than petrol. but, regardless, it's dirty, prices are still sky rocketing even more than petrol and no rev happy engine. Boo.

After remap it should but me over 30. my journey to work is all stop start alot of roadworks and traffic lights so really starting to warm to the idea of biking it. i was thinking about getting a derv but like you say diesel prices are a joke.

defo by the fiesta stage apart from RS. going to have a chat with the place i'd have it remapped by see what they say and see if theres a big enough jump in mpg to so it. other then that going to borrow my dads bike see how long it takes to cycle to work.
