Well, as some of you already knew, my car had previously undergone a transformation from a measely 1.4 8v PTE engine, to a slightly more enjoyable RS 1800 engine in Sept '06. However the day before ford fair this year, the head gasket decided it had had enough...

So i decided rather than messing about replacing head gaskets and having the old head checked, it was time to throw in a 2.0 engine.

Took me a few days but i sourced a series 2 silvertop mondeo engine off eBay, for a bargain at £90 delivered

It arrived a few days later, on a pallet wrapped up nicely. Got it in the van and took it to where my car is stored...

New engine, still with all its mondeo bits on it (inc useless TAXI ecu)

Engine is a little dirty so i popped to halfords for a helping hand...

Engine that will be coming out...

That's all i got up to yesterday, plan is to do the conversion over the bank holiday weekend - that's if all goes to plan. I am planning to use all my 130PS RS1800 stuff (loom, maf, and ecu) to run the engine. I know it probably won't run at it's full potential, but if it doesn't work well, i will replace all this stuff when i get the money to do so)

I will try and get as many pics as poss during the conversion, and ill update soon :)

I really like that picture for some reason! 8-)

All the best should be a walk in the park if you went from the PTE to a zetec! :)

Yeah i've had a nose through that thread. I think his may have been running rough for 2 reasons. 1 - the timing was out, and 2 - he was using a 2.0 maf which wouldnt run properly with the RS1800 ecu. Fingers crossed my maf will run the engine ok for now :)

WELL...

Old 1.8 is out, and the 2.0 is almost ready to go in :)

Got to go to ford tomorrow morn for a couple of gaskets, and then hopefully the 2.0 will be going in!

No photos at the moment, haven't got the cable right now. I will update with pics tomorrow. 8-)

UPDATE....

Well, sorry i havent updated this for a while.

Fitted the 2.0 and got it running, for about 10 miles. Where it then decided to pop the oil filter off the back and i didnt realise, until i came to a grinding halt as the engine had siezed... :frown:

Sooooo, i decided i had had enough of zetecs for now, and went out and bought this...

Image

a cvh turbo lump! 8-)

Picked a turbo up off Terry (thankyou!!) and i spent all day yesterday with a pal from FT.com removing the 2.0 and fitting the cvh.

First things first, we removed the 2.0 from my car. I cant really stress how easy it is to lift the engine out the top, as long as you have a nice big flat area. It only took us about an hour to get the zetec out.

Image

Image

Dead 2.0 next to dead 1.8

Image

Empty bay AGAIN :(

Image

Then we went on to putting the cvh back together. Took the gearbox and ABS off, and decided to use my 1.6 si box as it worked out easier.

I bought a gasket set and bolts off eBay for £30 posted, which is not bad really. Also bought a pattern part water pump, as the old one looked a bit grotty.

New head gasket -

Image

Image

Then put the head on, timed it up and it was pretty much ready to go in. It seemed sooo much easier to time than a zetec too. We also changed the clutch plate over from the 2.0, as it looked like the turbo one had seen a few hard launches...

No pics here really but it was really simple to get the cvh up and into the bay, and it was all bolted up.
We had to use the zetec engine mount in the end. We ended up using 2 of the 3 mounting points, which you can sort of see in the pic, but the 3rd one on the zetec is in a diff place to the cvh. The other 2 fitted perfectly though! :D

Image

Got it in, and put the rocker cover on and crossover pipe. Fitted the exhaust manifold, which turned out to be a bit of a task as one of the bolt holes had been slightly rounded previously... i was fearing the worst, but luckily si managed to get the bolt to catch some thread and it was all bolted up fine in the end. :oooh:

Image

Inlet has also been fitted, and i think most of the hoses are in place.

Now hopefully all that is left to do is fit a radiator when it turns up next week, fit the loom and HT leads, and then double check everything and make sure everything is done up tight!

Image

more updates soon hopefully! Can't wait to drive it!! :D
