Update at bottom

Edit: old pictures moved

I wasted many hours yesterday without getting very far...
I got about half way though taking off bits, then I realised I forgot to depressureise the fuel system... so put it back and ran engine without fuse, it wouldnt even start ! waste of time it was already depressurised.
So... havent touched the engine yet :(

Im stuck at the moment. I cant get the heatshield off the exhaust manifold, one of the bolts to cyl. head was so tight the hex head rounded off :( why does this always happen to meeeeeeeee!

Going to get the intake manifold off today I hope, I might just cut the heatshield up to get it out... since only one bolt stuck

This is my garage, if it rains this week while im out there, I will cry.
Image

And I know a garage would have finnished the whole job in 5 hours, yet im now at 8 and hardly started :p good thing I have the whole week off :D

looking good tho, dont cut the heatshield, halfords do a kit that clips onto a rachet for removing rounded nuts etc.

hopefully i will see you on the road at some point ;)

Heatshield will be reuseable, if not i will get one from breakers/ford, its stainless, so no rust either (but thick oil :P)

Heres how it went today, will type some stuff for a few of the pics in a bit, especially the rust ones :p

I started a bit late at 3pm, but it wasnt dark untill about 10pm, so had a good 7 hours out there :)

Oh and engine is not yet at TDC, I havent touched the camshafts or crankshaft yet :)

I was reading about the CVH/HCS and took this off by mistake. Proably not a bad idea but I will need a new gasket, thats another £10 gone :(

This is one of the sensors on the block. not sure which, but it has a small oil leak. Any idea what one it is, and should I just tighten up or remove and replace any seals?

Also, I noticed the cyl3 exhaust ports look like the are slightly open/stuck open from deposits. Exhaust lobes are facing back of car. Inlet lobes + valves are open.

Image
Inlet is off. That was fun. WHY do ford use those stupid multiplugs with plastic clips on both sides, they are impossible to get off without breaking especialy when plugged into back of inlet manifold. The multiplugs with metal clips are far nicer to use.

The rest are mostly of rust :(
Image
This is the front drivers side brake pipe. Its usually hidden behind the wheel arch covers. It looks quite bad, should I get it replaced? (I have already had the flexi hoses done a few months ago, and a brake check, surprised no one saw this. I could guess that all 4 metal brake lines will be this bad near the wheels - any idea how much it could cost?

This is the sill. It has been replaced before (no idea when) since the spot wields are not original. the rust is probably my fault for jacking it up in slightly the wrong place. Any ideas how much this could cost? (i think the other side is ok, not much/no rust - still original sills, but i didnt have a look today)

This is the brake caliper. Not sure exactly what is (*was, before the rust) behind the rubber, however the rubber is loose and should probably have failed the 2 month old mot.

Pictures updated over

thread was getting a bit long with so many pictures so removed them from thread..

I took head off today, then lower inlet manifold (fuel rail) then I started on the head. I have the valves out now.

No. 3 had some large deposits on two of the valves. The piston crown has some lumps of something inside it - I think it is deposits that have broken off... but they have been there a long time (since I done spark plugs last april.. I could see them down the sparkplug hole).

tomorrow I will get some grease so I can protect the piston rings/bores from dirt entering, when I clean the gasket face.

Also will be cleaning up the head, trying to find a suitable tool for removing the old valve stem seals....

I used halfords very high temperature red paint. The finnish is matt and looks a bit powdery, not sure if it needs more coats to smooth it off or, if thats just how the paint is suppost to look.

...but I ran out of paint, but most of it has several thin coats. Going to buy some more paint tomorrow since it could use a bit more, and I dont want it to flake off when it gets hot.

Also might get some vinyl paint to play with.

Also Im going to do same as onslack? and scrape off the top of each letter so they are shiny :)

ball of masking tape is holding the plastic clips... forgot to hide them for photos...
