Yo, this is my 16v Si, i know its the same as the post on Ft.com, but why the hell not?!?:lol: Here are photo's from (pretty much) the start, when i first got the HWK up to how it is now:

minor work starts; smoothing ariel hole, bonnet and minor dings:

wheels arrive and go straight on:

my rear bumper has a bit of a collision with a wall, also denting the exhaust big time (hammered out for now):

so that comes off in my grans garage for repairing:

decide to kill rust on the rear arch and attack any other imperfections down the driver and passengers side:

get my xr2i/rs arches on (bonded and screwed), driving around like this for 2 weeks and i got some wierd looks :lol: :

start to smooth them in with fibreglass:

12-bore bumper arrives and goes on. It will need adjusting to get it looking right, but im gonna kill the rust sitting behind it first

Im pretty happy with it so far, got a few more bits of rust which need to be attacked and of course needs lowering asap which will be done as soon as money allows. Also getting a bad-boy bonnet very soon.

few pics of the arches for ya, bearing in mind they're not finished yet...im gonna smooth them into the front/rear bumpers, then angle grind the gap again so the shape of the arches runs into the bumpers :)

Greg - cheers dude. I haven't done anything like this before...its my first car but once i did a bit of smoothing on the bonnet/ariel hole etc i got pretty confident and thought that smoothed arches would look decent with the 12-bore skirts. It aint that hard...just painfully slow work - il come back to the car some days and notice reeeeaaally small imperfections in the aches, which have to all be iron'd out before its sprayed :lol:

Tony - ta mate, I aint sure on a colour yet...im tempted to go back to standard colour (mainly because the costs of getting it re-sprayed a different colour are a lot higher than getting it done the same), il post up a poll soon, see what others think :)

Paul - i've gotta admit, i didnt weld new sills and arches on as the rust wasn't actually too bad, so it was just a case on grinding out what was there and treating it all with loadsa rust killing/protecting agencies.

decided to get rid of some rust behind the front bumper (was gonna take the bumper off, but couldnt find my trolley jack :S).

how it was:

to my grans garage for treatment...
grinded out all the rust, applied a loada waxoil then meshed and fibreglassed over the hole:

then smoothed back and zinc primered:

still needs some filler,smoothing and spraying black but its looking a lot better than before :)
ps, i know theres a gap between my bumper and headlights :bonkers:

when puuting on fiberglass does it hold around the area?

did you use fiberglass because it is less likely to crack like filler, and where can you get fiberglass.

how long does it take to set?

Never used it myself but i think it holds itself quite well,
and think takes a few hours to set.. probably 24 to go rock solid?

Think you could prob get it from b&q or somewhere?

cheers dudes...interesting how the morrettes get rid of the gap. Im gonna juggle with some different ideas with getting rid of it. The main thing that pisses me off is the gap between the front quater panel and the bumper :x

yeah, tbh i just had a grinder attackment for a drill, which was a bit cack...grinded out most the rust really easily...just left a few bits which i coated with waxoil. Fibreglass tends to dry in about 20minutes, its really easy to use, thought id use alumminum mesh aswell just to make sure it doesnt crack. I got mine from halfords, but its available in motormania and i guess do it all/b & q aswell.

When your applying fibreglass, your best to key the surrounding area a fair bit so its got a bigger surface area to 'hold onto'. I'd recommend it over just using filler; i tend to use p38 filler after fibreglass just to get a smooth finish (the less used the better due to how brittle it is).

At the end of the day, it isnt a perfect job on the slam panel and im actually expecting some rust to creep through after time...but as its behind the bumper and not in danger of rotting away any important parts, im quite happy how it is. If your gonna kill every bit of rust on a 10 year old fiesta, your looking at a long and expensive job (some consideration has to be put into the ??? your getting back when selling).
