Ive already put this on FT but might aswell stick it up here aswell. Well ive wanted to do the 2.0l for a while and now ive blown mine up i thought it would be a good excuse. This is how she was a couple of months ago-

Image

I was on my way back to colege near Kings Lynn (where i was living at the time) from Wigan about a month ago now when the engine started clattering. I pulled over and checked oil etc and all seemed fine, but the noise sounded terminal so i decided to see how far i could get. Well i didnt get very far. A couple of miles later there was an F1 style blow up with clouds of white smoke. So there i was stranded in the middle of nowhere, somewhere between Sleaford and Boston on the A17. I waited 3 hours for the RAC and got taken on a flatbed back to my college where i left in in the car park for a couple of weeks.

I then got this £150 beauty as an early christmas pressie so ive been rattling around in this for now. Its a 1.8 GLS with only 68k miles on it :oooh:

Image

I got the Fiesta back home to Watford this Saturday by towing it the 130 miles with the Sierra, and i then started work. This is at the very begining, note the oil EVERYWHERE

Image

Then at the end of the day :D

Image
Image

After getting the engine out i started stripping it just to see what had happened and found some interesting things. Most obvious being this nice hole in the sump-

Image

And all this shit inside

Image

It looks like what ever put the hole in the sump gave the gaurd/pan thing a good whack-

Image

After taking the cover off i could see more crap and the big end cap of no3 was missing, and the part of the con rod i could see looked pretty mangled-

Image

And after a bit of rooting around i found the offending item- :o

Image

That beleive it or not is the big end. Obviously this doesnt help get the project any further, but was just interseting to find out what had happened

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah the Sierra is pretty good for a bit of arse out action. Its got fuck all grip at the back

Anyway, small update. I got the steam cleaner and degreaser out today. The bay was covered in gunk and oil from the blow up, but now its looking much better, and should make it a bit nicer to work on.

Image

Next up were the brakes. When i changed wheels a couple of months ago, i found that the mk6 RS2000 alloys dived in a lot more so would catch the cossie calipers, meaning they needed spacing out 10mm which i didnt want. So i changed the discs from cossie ones to(brand new Ford) ST150 ones which have a better offset, which you can see in the photo below. Also bought myself some mintex 1144 pads aswell.

Unfortunatley when i did this i snapped the bleed nipple off :( . Ive spent a long time today at it with an easy out but didnt get very far so im on the lookout for one new caliper. Even went to the scrappers today and got a Scorpio cossie one but they are different :(

Image

And as i didnt have much else to do i stripped the engine a bit more. Before on the left, after on the right :o

Image

Need to get myself an engine now and start getting it in.
