Hi all,

Following the sale of my FSI a few weeks ago  I thought I'd share my new car.

Ford Cougar 2.5 V6, 170ps, 2001, 62k on the clock with FSH....

I didn't want to sell the Fiesta but I ran out of will-power with it. I think I needed a change and lately I have had a drastic lack of time for cars so I needed something without a long to-do list!

Anyway, only a few pics:

...As I know Mole had one of these and it delivered dissappointing 0-60 (on a hot day) I thought i'd give mine ago (not hot though!)...

Its not the quickest car in the world, and I think the Fiesta si 2.0 would have beat it in a 0-60 dash. The reason for the video was purely to see if the IMRC was working correctly (can have really negative affect on performance). I'm not sure if on a hot day it would be alot slower- I guess it probably would be. I've been told to avoid Induction Kits like the plague (heat soak) and upgrade the airbox to ST200 spec with performance panel which I will be doing . Other than that I intend to keep fairly standard. If I can get a standard spoiler done properly I will.

Performance thus far:- I think that 0-60 was around 8s, from 5s to 13s, thats with the Mrs in the car. MPG is around 29-31 with general commute. Short journeys and constant spanking would kill that though, and Long journeys with pussy footing around would see 35-38mpg. I didn't buy it for its economy suprisingly :gheeyyy:. The engine is design so that under 3.5k rpm only 18 valves are open...the rest open after 3.5k giving a good kick up the arse.

Comments appreciated,

Andy

Looks good.

Gotta admit they sound the tits with a decent exhaust system.

Get it to ST200 spec, job done.

There not exactly light cars and there not made to pull off the line fast. They just have effortless amount of grunt throughout the rev range just for a simple drive.

the mondeo ST is meant to be 7.9, none of these were close apart from the modded one :/

the slowest one may be a 2.0

Lets not turn his project thread into more debates.

It probably was a 2.0, my friends has plenty of power to get around, but my car absolutely killed it in a straight line. But I would imagine going up a hill or something the extra torque will keep it steady whereas i'd be revving harder.

Nice one, Andy. Always had a soft spot for one of these.

All the cool cars are fast "in gear" - none of this 0-60 nonsense. ;) Hehe.

Keep it a few months, wait and see how you feel about it and then decide if you are going to modify or not. in my opinion anyway.

Greedy though, how many valves do you need?? I could do with a few extra!

Going off andys video his seems to shift well so thats all that matters, i imagine heat soak may off played a part in some 0-60s as i bet waiting with the engine running made some of those filters breath just hot air in. My si got too hot before going on the rollers, puts me off cone filters, cold air feeds are a definate.

problem in the bay is liek you said, room

the air filter is a in such a crap position on these and the ST24's

needs to be behind a lamp or grill away from the engine, maybe buy some ducting and see what you can do to route some cold fresh air to the filter, if not run a feed under the air box, leave it in and drill the bottom of it so it gives a fruity tone and gets plenty of cold air shielded from the engine :D

Coolest rear seats ever..

Final photo is what happens when you do slightly under 1mile to work. It's the Mrs VW Beetle 1.6, and although it looks bad, it's just from the car never getting to temperature.... Shes now going to have to walk lol.

Comments appreciated as always.
