All started on New years eve, or a few days before, i spoke to a nice chap called Paul off here, who was selling a 2.0 engine.
I went down to collect it, but found a icey farm track and a lowered fiesta with an engine in the boot wasn't a decent combination.
Paul kindy brought the engine down to me for some beer money a few days later.
Here it was just after he left as it sat on the drive -
I then set about removing all the parts that were not needed, from what i can remember i took off at first :
2.0 Inlet manifold, binned that, but kept the beige injectors and the 2.0 throttle body as you will need them.
2.0 Gearbox came off and remains of drive shafts.
2.0 Exhaust manifold came off, along with the EGR system.
Power Steering pump, alternator, starter motor, alternator belt, all came off.
Then the big brackets which bolt the engine to the car, they came off too.
Also removed loads of little bits such as coil pack and bracket to clean and paint, the crankcase breather to clean and paint.
Here are some photos of the removed parts:
2.0 Gearbox
Random parts such as the remains of the mondeo engine loom, bits of driveshafts, inlet manifold, alternator and the gearbox again:
I then cleaned up my engine block, using wet and dry and a wire brush attachment on a drill to remove any rust, i then painted the block with black hammerite.
This is how it then looked :
I then set about collecting the parts i would need, to make it fit in the Fiesta Si it was going into.
First bargain was had on ebay, a brand new complete RS1800 manifold set up for 25.00 !!
I then purchased a XR2i 16v 1800 Gearbox and Sump, this is the silver one on the right in the picture, with the old 2.0 sump next to it:
I then purchased a brand new waterpump from ebay for it, for 25.00 -
I also got lucky at the scrapyard, and managed to pick up a Mondeo 2.0 Si ' DESK ' ECU and the MAF (Mass Air Flow Meter) from the same car, for 50.00 -
I then purchased a brand new clutch kit, for another bargain price of 31.00 !!
I then set about fitting what bits i could, today i changed the sumps over.
First off i drained the oil from the 2.0 engine, and removed the sump, if you havent taken the flywheel off yet like me, its a bit of a bugger to get off, i ended up finding two 8mm bolts and removed part of the lower metal gearbox gasket, the 2.0 sump then came free -
Pictures of the 2.0 Mondeo Sump next to the Fiesta XR2i 1800 16v Sump -
I then removed the Mondeo 2.0 Oil Pick up pipe, this was held on by 2 13mm nuts and 2 T30 Torx bolts -
Look at all the crud in the strainer !!
I then purchased a new sump gasket, was a little expensive at 11.75 but no where else had one.
I then offered up the Fiesta Sump to the mondeo engine and put a couple of bolts in, im waiting for my fiesta pickup pipe to come, its in the post:
Next i will fit the Fiesta pick up pipe and properly fit the sump.
The oil filter will be changed for the shorter Fiesta CVH/HCS style one.
I need to somehow get the bottom pulley off, change the cambelt, tensioner and water pump, drop it off the stand again, remove the 2.0 flywheel, collect up a inlet and exhaust gasket, some oil and various fluids, and she is ready to go in !!
