Just this evening I took the 1.1 engine out of my mk3 in preparation for fitting a 1.6 SI engine.

The car is going to be a track car but I'm still in 2 minds whether to keep it road legal. Does anyone know if the Pulse Air System & Charcoal Cannister can be removed and if so could it seriously affect my chances of getting emmisions past an MOT?

You can remove them with no problems.

Looks a good project, as far as keeping it legal goes, will you ever want to drive it on public roads? or course if its only track use it makes life easier as you don't need to worry about emissions etc.

Interior stripped (Loom and most of sound deadening has gone since this pic

Engine to be dropped in, ok it's no beast but it was cheap and it's about having fun, not breaking the land speed record

I have exactly the same project at home.Removed a 1.1 or 1.0 whatever it was and fitted my 1.6si engine. I came across a couple of things that had to be changed to make the zetec fit, For one my shell didnt have the captive nuts in the chassis leg to fit the engine mount.Another problem was the fuel lines needed swapping for 1.6 items,The fuel tank was changed at the same time so it had the 1.6 pump.Full interior loom was changed also.

If you wanted to fit the standard air box you dont have the captive nuts in the shell again to take the bracket for it so I've just zip tied it into place without the bracket.

If you want to see what i got up to then check out the si rebirth thread.

Cheers Fizzy T, I'll definately be checking your post out. I've found out that I have the mk3.5 shell so with a spot of luck I'll have the captive nuts in the chassis leg (fingers crossed).

I've got the fuel tank and I think I the fuel lines but I've never done anything like this before so your thread will be handy. I might have a few questions coming your way in the near future no doubt.

My shell is a mk3.5 and it didnt have the captive nuts anywhere.I ended up just welding the whole engine mount to the chassis leg lol

I've started painting the arches and engine bay.

I think I'm going to paint the engine bay, arches and interior in white and paint the outside of the car black.

Insurance is open to area's etc, if you are 19 and have 1 years no claims I can't imagine it would eb a problem unless you live with me.
