Hi there,

It started out as a started Fiesta Si 1.6 zetec. i got a set of rims for it and thats about all i did apart from sound system. One day it started to make abit of a rattle from the bottom end and by this time me and my dad had read up alot on the 2ltr mondeo zetec conversion. By the time we'd sorted out what we needed to do my 1.6 packed in!

So we headed to the scrappy and found a mondeo 2ltr and took its engine out for a nice sum of £100. then once that was home we started stripping it down of the parts it didnt need. baught new gaskets etc. Thought to myself the engine looked abit scabby so thought id give it a lick of paint and i think it come out pretty nice!

Anyway, we start on saturday stripping the 1.6 engine out the Si. Sunday came and the engine and everything was out of the bay and the 1.6 engine started getting striped of the parts we needed for the 2ltr engine. In the week we got the engine all ready to be put into the car on the following saturday. Saturday came and the engine and gearbox was put in thanks to the help of a few mates. We got pretty much everything done on saturday apart from drive shalfs put back in, fan, piped up and power steering plumbed in. We got to it sunday and put the drive shalfs in and got it back on its wheels, then got all the pipe work done, put oil in her and she started first turn, on the 1.6 ecu aswell. (2ltr desk ecu on order)

heres a few pics of the project in proccess. still alot more to do on the body work side of things like xr2i skirts and arches and my multi spoke BSA alloys, brake conversion and new suspension.

anyway all comments welcome :)

just a lil update. car failed MOT today! only mirror things that need doing like lights and abit of rubbing and some welding but nothing that cant be done over a weekend :)

also i ended up sticking with the 1.6 ECU as it really didn't like the 2ltr ECU one bit!! im looking for a superchip to gain a little more power out of her, also a 4 to 1 manifold and straight through exhaust system should help it breathe a little more!

what other mods can i do?

cheers Grant

what 2.0 ecu do you have

DEEP, DESK or DEWY?

you had it on a diagnostic machine to see whats up when the 2.0 is connected? i'm assuming you dont have these issues with the 1.6 ecu?

not entirely what cams to use as there are a few and depends on what your after

have a look at either pipe and kent or cat cams, they might have something that meets your requirements

aftermarket management, there are a few too choose from again...megasquirt,omex, emerald, go-tech etc.

do a search online for any of these

bit of a update!

got myself a set of rims until i get my hands on some Zetec S phase 2 alloys!! i also put a laguna front splitter on which i think makes it look so much nicer! Its now also got a full magnex exhaust system on it and a 4 to 1 focus manifold to go on which should free up a few more horses. Did a oil change the other day aswell for some Castrol magnatec 5w-30 really made it feel smoother and more responsive.

anyways parts still to do:

Big brake ungrade.
XR2I side skirts and arches.
Gmax suspension (going on tomorrow weather permitted)
Front a rear strut braces.
Fit my tints.
New drivers door to go on.
RS1800 inlet manifold.
Custom intake as i really hate mine as it says 1.6!
Stage 2 head and cams
Throttle body set up.
Megasquirt managment.

heres some pics of her as she stands now. (if we get the suspension put on tomorrow i'l get some pics of it riding a littler lower)

new rear arch being welded on

Hi yes i did fit the splitter but no pics sorry all i did was centre it and screw it to the panel at the front of the car then cut the sides down, really changes the look of the front end!

and the conversion ermmm the engine saw me £100 then all i got was gasket (about £50 worth) exhaust bolts (£30 odd bloody ford!) water pump (£20) timing kit (£60) then oil and filter (around £40 in total) so thats round £300 for a 2ltr conversion :)

BAD NEWS THO!!!! just fitted the new suspension and took her out for a test drive when BANG big cloud of white smoke out the back and oil light on  looks like its popped the oil filter off or worstly popped a crank seal! i feeel like dying all the hard work of puttin the suspension on for it to just go bang 100yards up the road

shes not gone tho! i've put to much into this car so if the engine is fudged it will be gettin another (less milage) mondeo 2ltr engine and i wont be holding back on the goodies for it!!

on that sad note i've gota go get my head stuck under the bonnet to work it out. many thanks for the comments guys

Grant
