Post subject: | My Project - XR2i "Replica" (5dr) |
Just registered (was recommended by Chris, the guy I brought my back bumper from) so I thought I'd make a post here to update on my progress with my XR2i Replica project. Basically I am doing a week intensive starting 18 Aug, and my test is in September (15th I think) so I'll be on the road soon! In the meantime I got near enough given an M Reg 1.3 Freestyle II, so I thought I'd do something decent with it to make it look abit better!! So, XR2i replica it is. Its a 5dr.... so itll be a challenge! If anyone has seen Tweek or Summers 5dr cars on FT.com theyll know a 5door can look stunning! Anyway, pics of progress so far; SI Interior is in, need leccy window setup cheap so I can get the matching door cards put in too! ![]() The back bumper is on that I brought from Chris, thatll be painted before I pass my test... ![]() And the front bumper is on but could do with paint work touching up ![]() ![]() |

cheers fellas! the plan now is to get the bumpers, arches, side skirts, mirrors and spoiler painted and fitted. Then all I'll really need is some wheels and an exhaust before I can start tarting it up abit! I've tinted the indicator strip on both rear lenses so I'll lacquer those tonight and get them fitted back on the car tomorrow. Got clear side repeaters with orange bulbs coming too so thats all good news ![]() when I run out of money to buy stuff, I think I'm going to take the black strip of the side because I think itll look much tider and I would end up cutting them up to get the arches on anyway! any comments welcome ![]() |

Yep, cant wait to get it all painted and get the side skirts etc on there too Chris! I'll have to get some pics on here when the back bumpers all painted. Might paint over the stripe which is a bit criminal, but the front and back ones dont match quite and I'll struggle to get a decent stripe on the side of a 5dr. The ugly black strip along the side of my car is coming off too I suspect, so itll look nice and tidy. I've got a little bit of a shopping list of parts I need which someone might be able to help with. I cant really afford to buy them all now but some of them would be useful... 1) Leccy window setup - Brought an SI interior and want them door cards in! So need to get some electric window switches and all the setup (motors etc). Anyone got some laying about? 2) New front Ford Badge - in all honesty mine is cack. Wants ripping off and replacing with a fresh looking, un-faded one. 3) XR2i Foglight surround - brought a front bumper, but the foglight surround on the passenger side is bust. Would be good to get another one on there to make it look abit more "together". Might be a long shot on an SI forum ![]() Also, needing to get an XR2i/RS back box on there sometime. What work will be required to do that? (Remembering of course mine is a 1.3 with a McDonalds straw for an exhaust.... ![]() |

Looks like a good project ![]() You have looked into how to fit the skirts and arches to the 5 door yes? I love the look of white cars with the XR kit on ![]() Doesnt matter about painting over the blue stripes, I have on mine. Which are going black soon ![]() With the backbox its just a case of getting someone to modify it to fit onto the existing pipe, better going to an exhaust place to do that. So buy a cheap decent backbox and have a go yourself or pay around £80 at most to get it welded to fit |

Certainly have looked into it mate, had a look on fiestaguides.co.uk and theres a thorough guide on there detailing it. Sounds like it'll take some time but Id like it to look like it came out of the factory like it! I do aswel, theres a lot of debate about "Radiant Red" or "Diamond White", I prefer diamond white every time! My only bug with my car is its a 5dr, and had I not come into this car so easily (£200 with 38k on the clock..) I would have gone for a 3dr. But thats life. Hopefully my older brother will be able to have a look at it and put it on, he had a mk2 fiesta for his first car years ago and he did an XR2 replica ![]() Cant wait to get it done!! I'll be off to Ford Fair with FT next year without a doubt!! |
