Post subject: | My 205 GTi ..........is history |
Hello, Sorry it's taken me so long but I havn't been able to upload pictures for ages! I decided on getting a 205 on impulse really and basically bought one the next day ![]() ![]() ![]() It's a 1.9 phase 1.5 so it has some phase 1 stuff and some phase 2 stuff on it. It's got quite a few niggles here and there, and the paint is far from the "cherry red" it was when it left the factory but mechanically its pretty sorted and there is NO ROT anywhere!! The previous owner did a lot of work on it getting it through the MOT and it has had a load of parts repleaced, only main things that need assistance are that it finds it hard to hold an idle when it's cold, and the drivers seat is pretty much screwed but other than that it's in pretty good working order, Enough chat, here are some piccies, hope you like ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's suprisingly quick for an old SOHC and handling is pretty cool too, it's very very nimble but there is a lot of oversteer if you lift-off, I am getting used to it though and you can keep the back at bay with some throttle control, I will be getting some hard core tyres soon though so it should get even better. Overall I'm pleased with it, will be doing a few track days this year so watch the mods roll in. Comments welcome Emlyn |

You'll become addicated to lift-off oversteer, the gti-6 was insane and sometimes quite scary with it, but the 106 is a lot easier to predict and control. I imagine yours is a bit of both. You'll soon be doubling the speed at which you attempt some "LOO" and the grin will become twice as big ![]() Nice example though, it should shift and keep with a lot of modern day hot hatches around a track. You'll have countless hours of fun in it that's for sure! Retro dash and carpets are what it's all about too. |

Cheers guys, Yeah, I imagine the 106 is easier as it's quite a bit lighter than the 306, the 205 is probably more like the 106 I would imagine due to a similar weight. Apparantly they share very similar suspension? (205/106) By the way i have a 1.6 gearbox lined up allready, but not sure if I can be bothered to stick it in just yet, think I'll keep this one on for a while and do it in a month or two. Cheers Emlyn |

Hi Emlyn Have you still got the BMW too? the Si is ready for another track day on Thursday at the performance ford track evening at Snetterton, do you think there is much differance between the GTI and Si? must admit it doesnt seem the be running as well as it did and holding back a bit when flat out seems to peak at just over 5000rpm but still pulls 125mph. You will have to let us know when you get the GTI on track Will |

Before you spend money on a gearbox you should really go over your suspension with a fine tooth comb imo, as that's the most important part to sort out and will make a massive difference, along with the braking system that's probably tired too. engines and gearboxes can be replaced cheaply and easily with these so focus on the other bits first I say. |

Will- Hello mate, The bmw is sold now so I only have the one car, to be honest the performance feels very similar so the si acceleration wise, but you seem to have got more power out of it with the things that you have done so it's probably quicker than the 205 now I'd imagine. Not sure about the holding back, I had various running problems with it which were all sorted out by the last few months of driving it. Good luck with the track days, and I'll deffo let you know when It's ready for one. ![]() Ry- I got the box off a mate for penuts so it's not really a purchase, and is at the bottom of the list, suspension is deffo coming first, I can't stand worn out suspension parts etc. Thinking of ordering some braided hoses in a bit as the current ones look a bit iffy. It's got adjustable koni's on the front at the moment, so I'll probably get some rears too and some eibach springs I'd imagine. Also going to get some group n engine mounts as these ones are a bit tired and change all of the bushes for better ones ![]() Terry- Why thankyou Sir ![]() |

cheers mate, Was thinking about what alloys would suit it the other day but I think any of the newer peugeot ones would look a bit modern for it ![]() I'm thinking of spraying these ones soon as the paint is flaking, I'm thinking white with red peugeot badges ![]() Emlyn |

Cheers guys ![]() Well they deffo need spraying anyway as the previous job was very poor, Don't you like the idea of white? I did a quick photoshop (cough paint cough) but It's not worthy to put up ![]() ![]() and the white looks really good I think, might just re-spray them gun metal but I'm undecided??? Emlyn |
