Went to modified madness. Then went to halfords as I couldn't run with an oil leak. Got some "wynn engine stop leak" which seemed to have worked.
Ragggggged it. Lost to two subarus and some older thing.. No idea how a 1.6 lost to a 2.0turbo. But I did get consistent 18secs and 77mph from all three runs. Didn't realise I was being timed so didn't take out my superchip. I tried to get car to pop but it wouldn't.
Did some handbrake turns in the car park.. Was quite good on a gravel sort of Tarmac.
will get vids up of my thrashingd when I can :)

I am currently sat on my bonnet awaiting the RAC flatbed.

Drove it home from work at 4am and it developed a tapping noise. So as I was driving it to a mates garage anyway I thought I'd take it to see what was wrong. It got worse

I'm only about 2 miles from my home. Car was going crazy 1st - 2nd crunched so I thought oh dear and pulled over. Engine oil all over the floor. Manifold smoking. Engine literally shaking with the tapping noise

how lucky an RAC should pull in very quickly to check his next job I flagged him down real quick and in his words "your engine is fucked" so I'm sat on my bonnet awaiting a flatbed

so until I get a decent analysis, I dunno whether I'll be looking for a cheap runabout, or I'll be trying to fix this. There's a 1.6 zetec up ther scrappy by me (maybe) but it ain't an easy job swappng engines. No matter what it's going to cost a bomb to fix, and it's fucked I guess I runs and moves, but with a terrible knock and smoke and everything :(

I just wanted a nice looking averagely quick car :( you don't get simplicity with an si :cry:

now is a great excuse for you to drop a 2l in, probably work out cheaper to fit that as they are 10 to the dozen, if you get my sheffield speak thingy :doh:

You sure its the engine, why would the gearbox crunch if it was the engine, you sure the box/clutch hasn't gone, causing oil to spit out onto the manifold?

Whats the oil level like in the Engine? When was it last checked/changed?

Can you see any holes in the side of the engine?

Where abouts is the tapping, top of the engine or the bottom?

Big hole in the engine can put your hand in it. It's fucked. Dunno what I can do now. And I've actually only done.. Two handbrake turns in this car so it can't be that :P

I have no experience engine swapping, unless people are offering to come
down and get it done with me beore Wednesday! :( I've no idea what to do now.

No idea really. Could have been the fact I was lied to and it was a shit engine. it had a small oil leak, but nothing major and I drove it for the month or so i had it and topped it up about three weeks ago, so it can't be the oil really. I really don't know, It just started tapping and got worse and worse, apparently you can fit your hand in the hole.

Probably be selling off the car and all the parts, Don't think I have enough experience to break the engine really.

I'm just well and truly screwed. I have all of about £100, and a credit card which is about £300 in debt (or will be at the end of the month) and a mother which decides she isn't going to help, shes going to scream at me for buying a car thats unreliable and I spent all my money on modifying... Yes, its been unreliable, but modified? i spent £90 on a superchip and K&N, and all the mods are just looks to be honest. so how does that make the car more unreliable?

Stress and worry, this is all that is going to become of this.

If you really want to keep the car and don't want to change the engine then get somebody else to do it.

When my 2.0 blew I paid a local garage £300 and they swapped it and that included swapping everything for the usual 2.0 conversion and the cams.

I would say if you can get a cheap 1.6 (there is a few floating about) then this may not set you back as much as you may think.

Can you not get a bank loan or have enough to buy a new car on your credit card, I bought my car on a credit card at £6.5k.

These things are sent to test us, not trying to turn this conversation in another direction, but on a friday my 2.0 blew and on the saturday my (to be) Saxo was listed on ebay, went and had a look and scraped together every penny I could and bought it for £1400 and picked it up a few days later, it was the best thing I ever did. Not saying that is what you should do, just going for the whole 'every cloud has a silver lining' thing.
