Nevermind my dad made a slit in the pipe, we forced it over used the metal clip abs fastened it.
Filled the gap left and put tape round it for now but it's secure.
Runs nice with no MAF

Now I'm sure its the MAF or (what I've been trying to avoid) the ECU

Had the MAF apart earlier and cleaned that up too. Pretty sure it's the latter now :(

Have you checked the wires going to the MAF, make sure they aren't perished or damaged

Did that wires are good. One of the first things I checked as that was easy.

Well when I check my ECU if it is correct then it leaves me getting a new MAF but it's definitely either or now.

As you all know by now (more then likely) I have a thread running in tech problems.
This car is evil, I have decided its here to torture me

I'm still waiting on my newish MAF and ECU to arrive but I got a curveball thrown at me
Image

It snapped, don't know how. I was driving it when I felt the car lose power under acceleration. Pulled into a garage just down the road. bonnet up and it wasn't connected neither was it going to stay connected. Thankfully I carry a roll of electric tape in my boot with a few tools so I could get it to stay on for a bit.

Cleaned up the ISCV which was filthy. Switched it for another one to make sure that wasn't the cause, it wasn't (which I knew it wouldn't be but if you don't try you never know)
MPG has gone up slightly though so not all bad (I think its more to do with the fact the dodgy idle is not happening much anymore) although it does like to drop to 400rpm when I put my foot on the accelerator before it picks up again, occasionally now.

I'm getting there but there isn't much more I can do now until those 2 bits turn up.

Today I got my ECU and MAF. So not this sunday but next Sunday its up the parents I go to switch the parts into the car and replace the broken MAF connection.
With any luck the car should run like a dream after that (got my fingers crossed for it anyway)
Although my cam belt is in need of a replacement so I've got it booked into a garage for that and a full service (sparkplugs, leads, belts, filters, oil etc)

Anyway here are my new bits

Just waiting on my DESK ECU to arrive (I went OTT and located and brought 2, better to have a spare)

yep that is indeed a brand new one :D

yeah I doubled the airtightness of the bit that connects to the MAF as there is a slit in it where it connects to the MAF.

So you have bought a new ECU but not yet done a full service?

My all means a full service might have fixed the issues.

By all means it could fix it, but you could do all this work and it ends up the coil pack/HT leads/spark plugs are dodgey.

By all means it could be the ECU but that would be the last thing I would swap.

Sorry it does seem I am being a little negative, I hope it does sort it out, will be great fun when running properly.

As mentioned how much does a new ECU set you back?

Guru ECU is what it's currently running on according to my dad (althoughhe said it's definitely not one of the ones you mentioned the writing is worn and I can make out a ur so assuming it's the same as the guru ECU in my red 1.6)
The full service was already on the cards as the service history is lax and i wanted it done for my peace of mind but I wanted a new maf and ECU for it as 1 was incorrect and the other is a bit battered (screw heads and the wires/sensor bits)
Maf was indeed from eBay but beggars can't be choosers and it's in better condition then the current one.

New ECU set me back £95 including track and trace delivery from the Netherlands.

i think the maf is a good buy as it looks nice with the blue bit but in your case should be orange lol.

I like the idea of having a new ecu if your willing to pay the money

Wow new ecu :o :D

Hopefully it will run sweet as long as you get a decent pipe to put it all together

money isn't so much a problem at the moment it's having the time to do it.

It took 2 days of solid hunting to locate the ECUs that I've brought and both came from escort forums

I think after the service I'll buy a new k&n or similar for a fiesta and mod it with a hose to drop it closer to where the original intake was to let it get more cold air. Maybe even just a new filter cone, some hose and the original 1.6 one.

I'm still learning bit by bit and finding my feet with a lot of it.

My 1.1 was so easy! Mind you there wasn't much engine there
