It seems to idle and drive ok to be honest.... ...i guess it could also be the rocker gasket and it's running down to the inlet, though i'd have thought i would have seen it....
going back for another look Tues night..
Yeah I can't believe how long i've had this car for now, everyone else seems to move on and i've stayed!

Glad to see your saving my si's clone mate :)

Maybe it just needs a new sump gasket as mine leaked abit and had the same symptoms as yours....

Thanks for comments guys.
I've been at the car today and actually managed to diagnose and FIX the gearbox/clutch rattle i've been going on about (one of the reasons why i took it off the road).
It turned out to be a Torx bit lodged between the gearbox cradle (?) (runs from front to back of engine) and the gearbox- it took hours of nudging the engine back/front to diagnose it - it would only make the noise when you pushed the engine via the inlet manifold back towards to car. By moving the engine a minor amount the rattle would appear. Everytime the gearbox came ever so slightly back it was leaning onto the torx bit thus rattling. It wasn't actually visible because of the lip/curve design of the cradle as it's sort of like a cup.... anyway, after nearly loosing 2 fingers and alot of wiggling i finally freed it.

Offending item:

Image

I've also decided to bin my air filter today...i figured it wasn't doing the engine much good with a massive split in the rubber boot bit...

Image

Also fixed a misfire i was having by re-fitting the HT leads as they were sat incorrectly on the plugs...

FINAL update for today, i've got the standard wheels on...i've spaced them 5mm, i think they look ok, i need a proper look when the car is clean though to be honest...they are a little small...

What do you think??
I may have to settle for now and save up for some other Lenso's i have my eye on....that way i could use these as winter wheels.

Comments appreciated, can't believe how simple the problem was!! fixed for free aswell!!

it's already been lowered -35mm, i'm wondering if -60mm would probably look better. What are the downsides though, would the ride be harsher?

Speed bumps are the biggest nightmare really mate, along with a bit of scrubbing. Depends how much you want to put up with i suppose

Plans for the weekend:

- Ordered new lower rad hose (£40!!!!) from Ford
- New exhaust gasket also on order - need to refit manifold to stop it from blowing..
- rocker gasket ordered (for when i find some standard cams)

and i'm also on the look out for a exhaust manifold heatshield. Mine is still in a mess from the bump i had in 2008.
I'm finding parts hard to come by now.....

More to come...

the cam's in it now cost £175 (reground). going to be selling them soon though if anyone is interested, not sure what they would be worth, think Kent (these were re-ground to Kent Fast Road specification) quote 5-8bhp, though it's optimistic.
Cheers for the comments both

can you feel a difference? i think a 2.0litre would be better when i think about the price, i just will miss the my 1.6 as its quite a strong engine.

you can feel the difference but if your thinking of going 2.0ltr, it's always best to go down that route. I decided to do the cams because i didn't have the 'knowhow/space/time' to do a full on engine conversion.

more spending today...
looks like i've sourced some standard cams from Phil...i've also been in touch with Lee@FusionFabrications (thanks to onslack for the referral) regarding the water pipe on the top of the heat shield and thats now been ordered.
at this rate the Fiesta will be back on the road before the end of Feb (although can't do much this weekend due to valentines day  ) . Also i've bought (for my birthday) a £250 present to myself.... it's a marmite car item, but i just couldn't resist.....to be revealed.
