I used my completely standard engine on 105k for the turbo conversion, so there was no "running in" or anything needed. Just bolt on, tune up and away you go.

The clutch will last a while, it depends how much abuse it takes, though it's rated to around 450 lb/ft and my engine only produces around 200/230lb/ft at 8psi. Basically it's like asking how long a peice of string is, but generally it should last a good while as long as I don't launch everywhere, which I won't be.

would you say around the 60-80k a normal one would last for?

again sorry :P thought it had new lower comp pistons, how did you get the CR right for the turbo then?

My original OEM one lasted for around 100k. It really does depend on how it's been installed and treated.

when you say CR right for the turbo, what do you mean? Google high vs low compression for turbochargers. There's a lot to it.

Needless to say, if I could heighten the compression ratio and know that it would be reliably tuned and work well on the fuel I have available then I would.

I'd love to build a high compression engine for mine, high comp FTW! :D

Indeed, Des! :D :D

Small update. Picture at Sixfields Stadium first:

Image

And my shiny new Competition Clutch Stage 4 sprung 6 paddle and lightened flywheel.

Image
Image

Will be fitting this ASAP and run in for 500 miles worth of town driving.

As you may have read on my FB status recently there is a chip on the crankshaft pulley where the timing marks are so I'm going to DIY it and marker it up. I was a little worried that my timing light was faulty for a short while however all is not lost and with the help of a few people I know now my 16 degrees (standard) timing mark is 21mm exactly away from the TDC marker though, so I'm going to get the tape measure out..

Also next on the list is a new lower engine mount and 2x new tyres.

Cheers

I wanted something drive-able still, so opted for the 5.4kg version (standard 8.9kg) and not the 4.4kg version. I bought the flywheel more because it saved me the hassle of finding somewhere to skim my flywheel when installing the new clutch

Cheers :D

I've got a few more cheeky mods coming shortly, along with my engine mount. Will probably pick them up in a few days... ;)

In the meantime Des, I may be getting my clutch and flywheel installed shortly as I want to go to Donnington in a couple of weeks and want it breaking in beforehand. However, I wondered if you fancied coming along, halve the costs on ticket and fuel usage etc.. It's open pit lane I believe - Fancy it? Will chat to you about it another time. Going with a mate in his 240bhp DC5 and he'll have a couple of Gopro's on and in his car like me, so plenty of HD footage to be in! Plus you get to drive a turbo vtec, how can you resist!? ;) It'll be fun if it's raining

Lou, for saying it was probably the loudest car of the day exhaust wise, I dare say it would now be the quietest!

I do want to get this rolling roaded though at MM, and see what's different on just 8 PSI.

Small update.

2 more Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2's fitted, and it now grips much better in the wet. :D Was a shame to get rid of the two F1's on the front as they had tons of tread overall but 1 had a nail in it which although didn't go through, wasn't to be trusted as I could feel it from the inside of the tyre, and the other one had seen one too many roundabouts on the outside edge :red:

Next up is the clutch fitting which may happen this weekend. I'm at the stage where I just want to finish off this job and not have to tinker with it until the April + time. (Whatever!)

Few other things to fit, gearbox engine mount, Mocal oil cooler, etc. But next year I do plan on having the entire suspension bushes re-done. And maybe some new wheels..

Clutch DID happen this weekend...

Teh Teg!
Image

Ry actually getting down to business! :o
Image

Unfortunately due to me not wanting to get my lovely Galaxy S2 dirty, the pics had to wait for breaks when I could wash my hands, so we jump to this:

On the deck :)
Image

Empty bay
Image

Old clutch
Image

Old pressure plate (couple of launches there Mr Ry? )
Image

Old flywheel (yup, took a bit of a beating this has)
Image

Shiiiiiney, and light :D
Image

Bit of a difference...
Image

Annnnnd then it all went back together and all was good :D Apart from the speed sensor not being plugged in

Kudos to Ry for only stalling in the once though haha

Sweet :D Couldn't of done this without Des! MEGA Legend :D

I need to weigh the OEM flywheel and see what the score is. The clutch is fine for day to day use I think. 1st gear is slightly juddery and grabby if you edge forwards, and reversing slowly is juddery, but aside from that it's great. Faster, smoother gearchange, nicer pedal feel.

It's just been given a clean as well by the local Iranians!

And on the final note... 70 miles run in.. and counting....
