right chaps. just returned from egypt with the girlfriend... and wow, what an amazing place! too hot like :P still have a dodgy stomach too :(

had plenty of time to think whilst i was away about a lot, one being my car :D
left it at my dads so he could take us to the airport, returned to a full tank  and a ermm flat tyre  dad said he thinks its the valve (nothing in the tyre and when he tried filling it the valve just rejected the air) so that will be getting sorted on monday.

now down to the body work. i find it unlikely ill be getting an ash black door for the passenger side to replace my buggered one. so this is my plan, and ill give my pro's and con's to this idea as i know it's not to everyone's taste (and wasn't to mine originally!) i also know that a few people on here have done it before... happypaul, rob and a bloke with an mk4 fez (forgot the name!)

yes, i plan on spraying my motor matte black!

pro's:
i can find a door easy as pie in a diff colour, but the match with the ash black to the bodywork currently will be hard to get, and i wont be paying a pro to do it! so the matte black would all match as id be doing it all at once.

my bodywork is to be honest shocking. paint is terrible, patches all over it, blemishes, imperfections... its just coated :frown: plenty of wee dents too. a fresh lick would sort this out straight off. even if its not shiney!

it will be rust free as i plan on doing it properly!

to me, it will look aggressive, and that's IMO!

my cars is always getting knocks and dents etc, ALWAYS. this means i can repair it when i want, and do it myself and just spray it over with matte black!

cons:
it wont be shiney! at all :P

people won't like it (but then again, its my car and my choice!)

it will be a bitch to keep clean.... or even with a clean, wont look it!

questions:
how many cans would i use? i know to go for simoniz paint as i did my wheels matte black and it is awesome and isnt completely matte, has a wee shine to it if that makes sense.

in the future when i can afford it, will it be easy to have it resprayed back to ash black?

i wont be telling my insurace, along with a lot of other stuff, will this affect it?

i must stress that this isnt a definate, and wont be happening till after ford fair! but i am very tempted. i just want bodywork i can look at and not want to cry! :P but i dont want to do it and be like shit, bad decision!???

and if i do take this route, the coilovers will be getting a service and it will be getting slammed and the rear stripped! period.

Matte black cool, happypauls is great.
Why dont you consider gloss black like daves? Although matte is probably easier to apply.

like the wheels ben ;)

how did you go about doing the badge in blue?

i think the matte black is a great idea

why not roller it on like paul did ;)

then spray a laquer over it with a can to make it easy to clean

what sort of finish will satin give booker?
i mean matte can be patchy anyway, not sure what satin would be like? but good idea!

cheers darren, well it was a majour pain in the arse. i taped off the badge, and literally got blue hammerite and just filled the gaps then wiped it away! :D

was fidly but looks the jubblies. thought about it, but as paul has said, it gives a really rough appearance. im thinking spray it, then maybe laquer it? but what sort of finish would that give? because i know cleaning it would be a majour F*cker.

Pauls in brill you can see the brush marks!

Can't imagine you need to tell insurance, documents says it black and it is black, just say it faded if anybody gets upset.

Its you car do what you like.

spray is your best bet really, Paul only rollers because its easy but it does give a rough look.

Do it if thats what you want, Tough choice when you look at your cars shine and then you have to know that its going to be matte. I'm all for it though, the car isn't worth much as it is anyway so why not make it how you want it.

Could always do it matte blue or something cool :D

nice to see some of the comments here chaps :D

not something id expect you to say percy, you're very true with that though.

chris, my biggest critic :P thats the one thing im worried about, missing the shine. but i might counter it by spraying my wheels gloss black, like the rs500, i get best of both worlds then? ill see what i feel like after ford fair and whether i get a door soon. but i need it slammed big time, craving it now!
cheers rob mate. keep ideas comin.

sorted my wheel! was corrosion where the valve is, ground it off, replaced valve and now its sorted :D
