Right, another good few hours done tonight.
Sum total of tonights work is:
Old oil pump off
New oil pump on
Water pump replaced
Aux belt tensioner replaced
Sump back on
Gearbox retightened to the block
Engine mount connected back up

All in all a good evenings work I'd say!
Started snowing as the old pump came off, fucking typical Scottish weather!!
Luckily only lasted a minute or two :)

So need to change timing belt and pulleys, reconnect the starter, exhaust, alternator and power steering pump, double check all bolts, plumb in the mech oil gauge I've now get otherwise I'll have 4 bar of oil pissing into the foot well :lolz:
Replace rad and fill with coolant, think I might buy a new rad as this one has quite a few bent fins and I can't be arsed flushing it as its too cold :)
Fill her with oil, turn the key and pray like fuck!!

Simples!!

Hi Ben,

£35 from carparts4less.co.uk. This is the one I bought

Took a few pictures whilst changing the pump too so here they are:

Image

Engine Support in place, added second front lifting eye but wouldn't work with the chain so just slung round the exhaust manifold

Image

View down with the Rad and fron engine mount bracket off

Image

New Oil pump on and in place, just need to put in the new seal. Need to buy a suitable sized socket from Halfords as the Haynes helpfully doesn't tell you what size to use... D'Oh!

Image

Old oil pump, will be taking off the plate to have a look at the gears at some point and see if there is any obvious damage. Took the PRV out and looked ok, but don't really know what its supposed to look like so as no bits fell out I can't comment really.

Well the rad arrived today. Next day my arse and it looks alright except for the fact it doesn't have a hole for the sensor that's mounted next to the lower hose.
So a call shall be made tomorrow to get that sorted.

Get what you pay for I suppose!
Soni would hold off ordering that one Ben until I find out what the deal is.

awesome.

in retrospect, could you not drill out the hole, remove the sensor from your current fan, seal it in and then away you go? i know its a DIY job and more effort but it saves you forking out for another rad which has it.

Fuck that!! I'll just put the old one back in!!

The area for the sensor housing is totally different, it'd leak like fuck then I'd be £35 down plus the cost of another coolant refill.

Its funny you should say that Sam, I was looking through Fast Ford last night and saw a few for ST and RS's and thought, hmmm... should I??
Know anyone that sells one for the Mk3 that isn't for an RS Turbo?

We'll see what carparts4less have to say as they have said bugger all so far :(

Had a play around on Wednesday night, still need to get the oil seal in place, my socket wasn't deep enough so borrowed some bigger ones from work and will get that done when I'm back home!

Put the power steering pump back in and double checked all the torque values of what I had disturbed.
As I couldn't get the seal in I decided to start the hellish job of replacing the clutch quadrant as its been needing done for months. Started chucking it down so I left it in bits in the footwell :lolz:

At the outlaws for Christmas so will hopefully update when I get back and smash through the clutch quadrant and get the seal in place and timing belt back on.
Still heard bugger all from carparts4less!! No answer on te phone and no response to email, think ill just be flushing my rad and getting a refund for this one!! Cunts!!!

Merry Christmass everyone, hope you all have a good time and get suitably shit faced

Right, well I've been out over the weekend trying to get this finished and get her back up and running.
Ended up having to fabricate a tool to push the oil pump seal into place as the chassis leg kept getting in the way of the sockets I had, so got that back in then started putting everything back together.
Got her timed up and re-built in the engine bay so set to work finishing the clutch quadrant.... two points to note here:
1) Even if you have done a job before, it doesn't mean it will be any easier the second time round!
2) If you have done a clutch quadrant before, chances are it was years ago and guess what, you're not as fucking agile as you used to be!!

Honestly, I hate that job, and I hated it the first time round. Guess its like giving birth, you forget how truly awful the process was and just enjoy having your baby at the end of it :)

So, everything is done except I cannot find the two outermost bolts/studs which hold the pedal box and brake booster bar into place. I assumed they were studs and held in place so didn't bother looking out for them. It was pitch black and pissing down once I realised so just shut everything up and will have a go on tuesday as its supposed to be dry then.

But fingers crossed all I have left to do is those two bolts, connect clutch cable to gearbox/pedal, connect throttle cable, connect battery, fill with oil/coolant and go!!

And if its as easy as that I'll buy you all a drink :)

Well, a round of water it is then!
Fuck me did i not just have to do the above, reconnect the battery and turn the key and she fired up first time, idled and ran like a dream.
Will need to check oil level in the morning but all being well she's back :)

Just need to tidy up the gauges inside and give it a clean and I'll be a happy bunny.
Its good having a car that, at the moment, 3 out of 5 gears are absolutely fucking pointless :D

Gnight all

Paul
