Ok then, cheers for the warning.

I'll still use the K&N rubber pipe then. I was just looking for something a little more astecially pleasing if you know what I mean. :homo:

How come it resticts air flow, is the channel just too small?

P.S

Progress is happening, all-bit-it a little slowly.

Here's just the one recent picture showing that the pistons are out:

Image

Basically, at the moment i'm collecting parts and everything I need for the rebuild (spending all my money  ).

I am starting to regret making the decision to rebuild as the costs are forever rising  .

Oh well, I have started so I have to finish :)

I do have a few questions for those who have already been here, which I would be grateful to know the answers to.

1. Do I need to buy a fiesta inlet gasket or will the mondeo one work? (I have a new one from a 2.0 head gasket set)

2. Do I need to buy new tensioners for the cambelt, if so 1 or 2?

3. What's in this bag and where do they go  ?

Image

I'm taking a guess at valve stem seals?

4. Where's the cheapest place to buy these things?

Any insight is much appreciated :)

Thanks, James.

Hello everyone.

As I said before, things have been happening fairly slowly as I ordered parts from here there and everywhere as I tried to save money

However, progress has been made.

All the parts I'm ever going to to need for the conversion have been purchased and delivered, I hope

So over the weekend I started to bebuild the engine ready for the swap!

Here is the 2.0 oil pump, new fiesta water pump and Rs1800 sandwhich plate with 2.0 injectors and rail in.

Image

The block with new piston rings and shell bearings.

I didn't touch the cylinder head except replace the camshaft bearings/seals on the end.

Image

Image

As how it was left at the end of today.

Image

I need to put the timing belt and pullys on and I may connect up the inlet manifold but then it's on with the swap. Watch this space 8-)

Thanks, James.

Hi Folks,

Some more progress today :)

I extended the engine hoist tower to be able to lift out the 1.6.

Then I bought round the fiesta, hopefully for it's final journey with just the 90 horses

The 2.0 as it stands:

I think there's another day of removing pipes and plugs before I attempt to lift the engine out. Is it possible to remove the engine without the gearbox? As this is what I was planning on doing.

P.S What the hell is that big black can thing below the drivers side headlight :?

Thanks, James

It is possible to remove the engine without the box, but TBH its a lot easier to drop the whole lot out of the bottom and seperate them off the car. Thats my opinion anyway.

As for the big black thing i think its name is a carbon canister or something like that. It basically collects the petrol fumes from the tank whilst the car isnt being used, then wehn the engine is running the are fed back through.

Nice garage youve got there, plenty of room to work in :)

Cheers for that information :)

I didn't realise that was a carbon canister, it seems like a long distance from the fuel tank or fuel system in general.

I can see what you're saying about just dropping both the engine and box down, which I will consider doing. I'd still have to remove the driveshafts. With all the ancillaries on, will the engine have room to swing off of the gearbox and the clutch to clear when lifting up?

Thanks, James.

Hello.

I've been busy during the week removing the 1.6, then building up the 2.0 with all the necessary parts from the old engine, before slotting it in.

I decided to drop the 1.6 plus the gearbox down and lift the car over the top. With everything assembled, the 2.0 was lowered from the top and bolted into place.

Here some pictures: (phone quality is poor)

The 1.6:

2.0 built up, with Si gearbox on:

It was tight but we managed to drop the gearbox in first, to clear the brake servo/master cylinder:

It's in!!

All that remains is to plumb it all in, fill it all up and fit the ECU, then i'll see what happens when turn the key

Thanks, James.

Cheers people for your comments :)

After a long day, I managed to get it running!!

It sounds very tappety but I presume that once the oil gets round the system it'll soften up. I only ran it for a short while because the alternator isn't connected up due to me over-tightening a bolt on the negative connection which snapped off the threaded stem :look: I'll solder up a new connecting eye or something.

MOT is due at the end of this week too :| It's a bit scary

James.
