iv thought about a decat on mine for a while as i have an exhaust sitting in my garage waiting to be cut up and made into a de cat pipe but i seriously cant be arsed as people say the difference isnt that noticeable and as paul says lose's the torque so i decided to keep with the cat to save the hassle of changeing it over for mot's etc

its all up to you really, i suppose its a free mod but if your after the power your be best of waiting till you can afford to drop a diff engine in the car :thumbsup:

Wouldnt it just be better to plonk in the 1.6 8v xr2i engine, then if you wanted to turbo in the future you can do it to that cvh engine :P

yea but not yet. im happy with the reliabilty of my 1.4 engine atm!! ive had it over a year now and have done about 5000 miles without any trouble at all. and it gets wellied quite often! plus i gota think of insurance being 17.

My clutch cable snapped agen last nite!

driving home from my girlfriend house at quarter 2 11, when to shift into 4th, bang, and the pedal was stuck to the floor.
pulled up on the side of the road, on a really fast bend, in pitch black. checked it and its snapped in exactly the same place as b4, just on top of the gearbox.

anyway i was half asleep and cudnt think what to do. i noticed there was a small pull in back down the road a bit on the oppposite side, so sillly me decided to put it into reverse with the engine off and roll it backward which as u know u cant do with the engine off (which i didnt think of coz i was so tired) it was then jammed in reverse. so it took me a while but i thn had the plan to bump it of the starter motor so i dun that to get it out of reverse then dun it in 1st to get the car goin agen.

goin up the road then i tried to change gear without the clutch (where u put it into neutral and try to get the revs right so u can slide it into the next gear), this failed miserably and i ended up on a hill trying to slide it back into 1st whcih also failed and i had to switch the engine off and get it goin off the starter agen.

i drove it in 1st gear doin about 15mph 4 3 miles to my grandparents house. so im gona have to tow it home sumtime and change the cable. i was lucky last time it went coz i was reversing outside my mates house.

i gota drive my mams 1.4 tdi polo now which isnt as fun lol

gutting man, atleast it isnt the ratchet, cable is a relativly easy fix...

get your clutch checked out dude, if this is happening often there could be a problem with it.

i had this problem many times dan i found out it was the nipple end binding in the lug hole of the cable holder and cuases the cable to twist and turn puts loads of stress on it u need to use copper grease o nthe nipple end m8 wack loads in so the nipple end can move smooothly in the lug hole i had mine for a year now not one problem hope this helps u and the rest of the members on here with the same issue

i used two genuine ford cables phil and they both went the same as the pattern ones grease up the lug hole and see how you get on

i know the grommet in the bulkhead dont fit properly if u remember i sed last time it snapped.

my mates gramps garage have had a look at my car 2day! they sed the cable had snapped on the gearbox end and also the grommet 4 the bulkhead has snapped off the cable.

but i shud be having her back 2moz morning! cant wait!! :halo:
