lol yea lets move on

just got off the phone with kent, after i noticed the car is actually slower with them fitted, i told him about the hunting problem before and how it still persists

he believes the cams will accentuate this, so i really gotta find out why it does it now

he believes that because the RR day said it was running rather rich, the ecu is over fueling because of a low vacuum pressure and there for thinks its getting too much air (or too little of it)

so the inlet is coming off, going to check the gaskets, all the hoses and change the AIT sensor

after that the longer duration of the cams should b e made to use by the appropriate air/fuel ratio

also he said that to run them in yes you hold 1500rpm for 15 mins

Have you got the vernier pullies and adjusted them to the exact timings?

Hunting problem... as in your rev gauge is actually hunting or just the noise? because if its the noise you want to hear mine

It will always sounds like that unless you get what percy said ^ and spank it on the dyno for a while getting everything perfect.

nah chris the engine hunts, always has, as far as i can rmemeber, its likely a sneaky little vaccum hose somewhere, its not due to these new cams

nope just set the timing up as normal percy, and no verniers no

I'd change all the little bodge jobs like cardboard gaskets etc and surprise surprise you have a hunting problem and your using cardboard as a gasket on the inlet mani.

Just to go back to a point that kent cams said about running them in, you havent done that. I hope nothing breaks in the future due to that.

In all fairness, you should have really sorted the hunting idle and all the other little problems out before fitting them cams, purely because its now going to make it near on impossible to sort it out.

If you had a sound engine to start with, with no problems, fitted the cams then got a strange idle, you can put it down to cams. But now, you will always have the strange idle so you will never find out what the problem is if you see what im saying.

What ECU are you running by the way? Also is everything paired up? We all know how anal fords can be when things arent paired up.

Back onto the subject of engines because im a cock like that, zetec engines really arent all that in terms of performance. They dont rev quickly compared say french/jap engines, especially frenchies, some of them engines rev bloody quickly... and the power output is lets face it, poor, fair enough they might have a good amount of torque but they arent all that. On another note, they are fairly reliable and strong too. I think everyone could argue about engines all day long lol. At the end of the day, just be happy you have an engine, some people in the world dont. But if you feel they should, please, just donate £2 a month to: Unlucky poor motherfuckers who dont have an engine, let alone water to survive, but they are too stupid to move closer to the water source, so they walk miles everyday carrying water and complain about it, so really its their own fault for being such idiots.com

Anyway Jony, stop watching porn, get down the garage, sort the car and then post an update which contains YAY ITS ALL SORTED! :)

haha

ill tell you ever issue that engine has, rough idle, overfueling, and a blow at the exhaust flexy, full stop

and to be fair i believe the overfueling and idle are because of the same issue

as for not being able to tell since the cams, no these cams are only mild, it shouldnt run lumpy like chris's far more aggressive cams do, however id on tknow yet as like you said it was rough anyway :P

no zetecs are far fromt he best, but they aint crap either mate, i know plenty of 1.8s with less power, and mines hardly tuned (before cam) the toyota 1.8 VVT-i makes 125bhp and as said that has valve timing which boosts power considerably at the topend, yet the 130spec does ok for itself

why does everyone compare with french cars? lets behave for a min and agree that french cars have always been at the top of the hot hatch border since the late 80s so i dont even bother comparing to them, theres no point unless you have done a fair bit of tuning

even the ST170 fords highest power N/A 2.0 cant make the power pugs 206 GTi 180 makes

anyway for a 1992 made engine design im fucking chuffed with 126 bhp lmao

wouldnt you be? and you seem happy enough with the 89 yours has (which is probs around 85 by now)

stupid fuckers africa has rivers! :P if the buffalo go tot he riversides why can they?

bought myself a torque wrench for low end scales today at the Gnoll classic car show in neath so ill be down there in a few mins checking the tightness of the cam caps, as im convinced theyre too tight, driving it makes it seem like the handbrake is on, theres a physical restriction there
Image

btw it is run in now, held at 2-2.5k for about 15 mins soon as it was running, so were good to go

sorry if im coming up with an answer to everything, but it seems ive made some wrong impressions to as whats up with the car :/
but like i said up the top, theyre all thats bothering it, and the idling lumpyness had no issues with it driving at all

1.8 VVT-i has 140bhp
1.8 VVTLi has 189bhp

The VVTLi is what is in the Celica/corolla T-Sport.
Figures from parkers btw :)

OH, found this, which is nice to know :)

"Quote from carfolio.com

Ginetta's G40 race car is a classically-styled coupé with a front-mounted longitudinal naturally aspirated inline four cylinder engine providing the shove. The G40R is the road-legal sports car version of these G40 racers. The Ginetta G40R features a Mazda-sourced 2.0 litre engine where the racing variants have 1.8 litre Ford Zetec units. With the 1999 cc engine providing 175 PS (173 bhp, 129 kW) at 6700 rpm, Ginetta are able to claim a very respectable 0-100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds, thanks to a low overall weight of just 795 kg for the car. We all know the best 1.8 engine is the B18 JDM - 197bhp from a 1.8 as standard ;) People put wilder cams in my engine for up to 220bhp and strengthen the springs and retainers for 9500rpm+ limits, but lairy is putting it lightly. Saying that Graham's standard teg bar the exhaust managed 196bhp @ 9600rpm :) I'm only joking though! It's not all about winning the contest..

I actually wanted to know - Petrol, how much was that torque wrench? :)
