howdy chaps small update, had the vrt on monday so started stripping the other night, had the dash out looking for rust and started stripping the engine, comeing out this saturday weather permitting so i gave the carpet a wash and the dash, also, i hate the way the steel nut on the rear popouts as they rust and leave a horrible rust streak on the glass so spent the day in work makeing new ones out of stainless :Q although when i went to fit them on the passenger side, the bolt on the latch side rung of, all rusted up so may sort a new one also i picked up a few goodies from maxwell on here last week, a set of compomotive mo5 flatface alloys in really good nick, also got a radiator as mine has a hole and a fan as mine got a bad spray job in silver, and i managed to get my hands on brand new mk3.5 mirrors

ok chaps got a bit done today, took the engine and box out, split them and took the head off, i suspected something was up in cylinder 3 because looking in the exhaust port it was very black and the other 3 cylinders were the right colour as expected, so stripped the head and no3 piston was indeed melted on one side, so took it out, the bore itself is ok, just a bit of aluminium deposit near the top but that can be sorted, so if anybody has a standard piston and rings ill take emm!!

oi thatssized engine hoist is cheating btw on the snapped window latch thread.... same happened on mine stick it in a vise drill it out and tap it out then glue (industrial!!) a bolt in the latch, cut the head off and you have a new (If not even better if you used a stainless bolt thread) latch. worked quality on mine

ive been cleaning and degeasing all the parts since takeing the engine out, i finished the gearbox last night so just a few pics also i really need a piston now as i wanna crack on with the rebuild so if anybody has one please let me know
