i found my old 2.0 a bit funny on 1.6 managment, i had 2.0 injectors and maf but 1.6 ecu, it would idle niclely, but when you pulled away it was like *splutter cough, erk BARRRRPPPPPPP* left 2 massive tyre marks down the road lol, search ebay for mega squirt, theres a company that do kits and they test them on their own 2.0 fiesta :) so they can give you a decent map for it too :) :)

I'm on a bit on a thinking session at the moment, so here's my latest contemplation.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Fiesta Si's are internal EDIS, meaning the ignition control is inside the ECU. This is why DEEP/DESK/DEWY are the only ones from a 2.0 Mondeo that work because they are the ones with internal EDIS. Why not change the engine loom to an external EDIS one (using an external EDIS module), like my mondeo seems to have and use a cheaper and more readily available 2.0 Mondeo ECU.

Edit:

Quote:
EDIS can be managed seperately from the ECU via an EDIS module or can be managed within the ECU. All ?93-?97 Mondeos, with the exception of the Automatic, had internal EDIS whilst I beleives that all earlier Zetec Fiestas like XR2i and RS1800 had a seperate EDIS module. However I discovered to my joy that the 1.6Si Fiesta had internal EDIS.

I stand corrected and still don't understand why those are the only ECU's that work

James.

I've been busy over the weekend and started work on the mondeo.

The result is one 2.0 lump removed and ready to begin being rebuilt. :)

It took me about a day to strip everything from around the engine, then me and my uncle constucted an engine hoist using scaff. and two large pulleys. The lift went very well, although the pulling required combined effort because we lifted all of the engine, ancillaries and gearbox in one. It's one heavy lump!

Anyway here are a few pictures:

A little progress report :)

It's slowly getting there, when I have free time to work on the engine.

I have removed most things off of the engine including the gearbox and now i am trying to remove the head but have come across a problem with snapping tools :(

Here's a link to a post on FT.com about it.

Thanks for that information. :)

I have heard mixed reviews about halfords stuff but mainly bad.
Plus i've had two sockets literally rip apart in the past couple of days.

I may try again with it but I have looked at buying a snap-on if it's actually going to do the job.

Halfords tools do have a life time guarentee but the closest store at the moment is at least 20 miles away and I can't keep going back and forwards.

Four bolts cracked off ok, but on the 5th it just let go from the torque :?

James.

Probelm sorted :)

I decided to keep the faith and go back to Halfords, they replaced 2 broken sockets for 2 new ones without issue.

I managed to remove the head bolts without another tool snapping, which is nice

So now the cylinder head is off, as well as the sump and all the other pumps and pullys.

Here are a couple of pictures at the end of the day:

Here are some of the parts that i've been collecting from ebay and the like :)

RS1800 inlet manifold, throttle body and sandwhich plate:

Escort RS Turbo crossover pipe:

2.0 MAF sensor

Image

DESK E.C.U (very expensive  )

Image

I also seem to have 5 throttle bodies somehow

Is the RS1800 throttle body the same as the 2.0, which would be the best to use?

Thanks, James.
