Cheers Ry,
Yeah i think the 1.6 is going to be staying for a while... i dont have an reasons for it, as it would be more economical to convert it... i just think it'd be more fun this way :teehheee:

Its looking as though its going to be raining on Saturday, therefore getting the car in a reasonable condition for FITP will be a mega pain in the ass..

that's abit of a bugger, how does it feel on them? stiffer/ridged(er) etc..
fronts are always a pain in the backside, although that said, i found aligning the rear ARB with the suspension leg holes a massive pain last time i swapped suspension :|

minor update today - have been to busy as of late moving houses/starting new jobs etc
anyway, thought today i'd have a bash at fitting my £20 ported and polished TB...

Old tb off:
Image

comparison - no, i don't really see much difference either :lolz:
Image

new one on..
Image

Had a few hiccups along the way but only took 1hr ish....
problems : the accelerator cable bracket does not line up correctly to the mouting holes on the new TB, therefore im guessing i need a mondeo/escort 1.6 accelerator cable bracket... which was *suprisingly* not mentioned on the ebay description. however, for now i've just bolted in one of the holes to secure the bracket enough for the time being...

second issue is abit of an annoying one. think i have some sort of minor airleak for the following reasons -
1 - when turning on car it idles at around for 2ish seconds 1400rpm and then drops to 950rpm
2 - when pressing the accelerator and letting go as the revs drop they stop at 1500rpm for about 2 seconds before returning to 950rpm...

put my ear around the TB to see if it is anything obvious, but there are no obvious noises that shouldn't be there...
going to give the car a drive around for 10mins or so to see if it clears up (probably wont) should also give me chance to give feedback on the TB - assuming i have no air leaks...
i have got 2 vids of this which i will upload later, but for the time being im trying to work out how to convert them from .mov to something smaller :teehheee:

cheers

I bought the same one and mine didn't need any modification?

I figured the slightly higher revs was the cable catching / the guard not sitting quite right. tbh i haven't resolved it but it seems to come and go. so haven given it much thought.

Could the funny idle just be a side effect of having one of these fitted?

might try leaving the battery unplugged for longer and giving it a good spanking again..
its revs/idles acceptabley for the first 2-5mins when turning it on....
then something will happen (maybe warm up?) then it carries on doing it....

..in terms of power, think the torque has increased definately, feels abit revvier(sp) throughout, might be due to the over-revving problem though
cheers for the comments

Waiting for some performance cams in the post, made by Autosprint, but with the same profile as the kent performance cams (so should be good), at a very good price.
got lots of bits and bobs i need to sort on the car first though, but there will be some decent updates soon
