To use a car spit, do you have to strip the interior completely and take the engine out?

You need to strip as i recon engine etc will be too heavy.
Ask paul.

yeah because the engine mounts are designed to hold the engine the the weight downwards... so any other direction could cause issues

Indeed you do Adam, a spit is no where near strong enough to take the weight of a car with engine ect.

PLUS, if its for what I think it is, you will need to take all the interior out anyway you melon lol

I was talking to Chris about this on fb earlier, we was wondering how you would be funding it lol.

£10k is probably a good sum to be fair, depending how cheap you can get everything needed and what other work and purchases need to be done.

Either way, if it all goes to plan, it will be a beast

So are you doing a 4x4 ?

If your planning on using cosworth gear and keeping the standard width of the si, you need to be thinking of something seriously different.

To get a tunnel and work to mount the rear diff and modded beam would cost around 6k by a pro..

I'm gunna use the tunnel off a sierra and rear axle from one too, that gives me independent rear suspension and then i can decide to keep it rwd or make it awd.
The most difficult part will be moving the sub frames because they will be in the way :/

Wouldn't say it would be an issue.

You'll have to mod the rear beam setup if you don't want wide arches.


Tbh your better off making your own tunnel... prefab tunnel kits for mk3 escorts are cheap. No point in a sierra floorpan. Look up the red Ford ka Rwd project for an idea.

Yeah you're right there lol, sierra ones need a fair bit of modding anyways for the fiesta. But the rear axle is only apparenly 2" wider than the fiesta beam.
And i never said i wasn't having wide arches did i? hehe

It's all in the planning atm, got a budget to make before i use it lol.
Not sure on the wide arches paul but i do think the cossy rep ones look cool, reminds me a bit of a 6r4 but not as extreme haha
