Just done some digging.

Pulled fuel surround off to see the extent of this chuffing hole.

It was bodged by whoever sprayed the car, as its covered in sealer the same colour as the paint!


To do it properly, it would need the rear quarter cutting into, replace the inner bit, and respray the rear of the car. Also poked a couple of small holes around the same area at the bottom of the turret.

Now, I have 2 options here... get the crap out, and make a peice of metal to fit in place, weld it and sealer it, then patch up the smaller holes. Live with it knowing a year or 2 down the line it'll be fucked.

Or, replace the bits and respray.


I'm not in a position to do the proper job. And as its a daily car, I cannot take it off the road either.
So I'm just gonna do the best I can for now, get the little bits welded up, and drive the car.
Year or 2 down the line it drops to bits, so be it.

I don't think I can be arsed to do it properly... might think about it in the summer.. as I have planned to do the sills when the weather is better, so would be a perfect time, and borrow a car for a few weeks.

I need to find an inner repair panel, or use a mk3 external repair panel, to bend into place, as cutting a shaping one will be an arse.

Gonna get my mate to have a look at it, because I reckon he should be able to weld it from inside the arch without affecting the outer panel. Or at least weld most of it in, and use seam sealer on the bits we might not be able to do, due to damaging the paintwork on the outside.

The other holes are on the same turret, going to the boot floor in the corner.. just gonna cut them and weld in abit of metal.


Problem is, if I start replacing outer panels, where do I stop?? Because I'd end up doing a full rebuild.
Yes this car is alot of trouble... I was always telling myself never to get another mk3. But hey ho, its a daily car.. if I get another year out of it at least I'll most likely want a different car anyway.

tis a bloody shame mate, its proba got about 155-165bhp per ton, your focus is say about 150 per ton maybe less

This is why I'm glad I bought a more modern car, as much as I'd love a mk3 I could never deal with the bodywork problems they come with unless it was a weekend toy.
