yeah im about to do that Dan. just need to get the caliper carrier off as i rounded one of the bolts off!

im replacing the split pins with nylock nuts. seems to be easier. how come you're getting new hub nuts?

The hub nuts have to be replaced with the punched in locking section (ie. get a screwdriver and bash part of it into the CV Joint shaft). I go with the split pins as I will probably replace the track rod ends once every two years which is before they will corrode and I know they will stay in place.

I had a rounded bolt issue on my replacement hub carrier and ground off the bolt for the caliper carrier. I'd suggest drilling out the rest of the bolt with an 8mm drill bit (something just smaller than the bolt width) and then scratch out the remainder stuck in the caliper carrier.

can you not just do that with the original hub nut though dan?

yeah im going to try smacking a smaller socket/spanner on it. if not ill do your method. dont need the carriers so ill just go mad on it

The punching then bending it back could lead it to not being done properly, best to play it safe.

And if that's the case with the bolt of yours, grind like mad!

Well, time for an update on this!

It's been SORNed because the water pump has popped and it needs more general work doing to it. So while that's off the road I needed another car.

This to be exact...

It's in pretty good nick. Crack in the windscreen (hello autoglass), tatty rear bumper and some crusting rust at the back of the rear arches but other than that it's splendid. Everything works on it, and I mean everything. 96000 miles and its not got the paperwork for anything but its had the belts done, been very well looked after on maintenance and its had boh sills fully replaced. Sure it's got a couple of small dents and a few scratches inside and out but they're not even minor.

Cost?

£250.

Yup. Score.
