Just drove it to where we're bolting the new engine in on Saturday. Miss driving it  Poor thinking was rattling like a pack of skittles anywhere above 2500rpm - imagine the looks I was given driving on an A road doing 45mph - I'd normally be cursing at people doing that

Heads being taken off Friday night and bolted together to this with the new pump/tensioner/belt/gasket

Image

Sorry for poor quality picture!

Then it's getting a couple of new engine mounts and the stage 2 clutch (didn't want a stage 3 as it was paddle!), being lifted in, new filter and oils anndd fingers crossed it may be done by Saturday night AND it all works :hsugh:

There extra things I could do whilst the engines out but I need to get some a snowboard and some bindings before March and that's enough dollar as it is.

Right then!

Image

Image

As you can see, engines head is off, now it's time for the gearbox to come off

Image

Lifting it out

Image

A few bits on the floor

Image

New F1 Stage 2 clutch

Image

My ITR head bolted to the Civic Bottom end, with flywheel, clutch and so forth on!

Image

And here it is being lifted in

Image

Went a bit dark after that so no more pictures, but the guy I was helping managed to do it all in a day!

To Summarise...

B18C4 Bottom End @ 80k from a Civic AeroDeck (170bhp) fitted to my B18C6 ITR head (187bhp) with..
New Honda Cylinder Head gasket
New Genuine Honda Cambelt and Koyo Tensioner/Waterpump
New Goodyear Auxiliary belt
Energy Mount Inserts for Lower Gearbox mount
F1 Stage 2 Racing Clutch
HAMP Oil Filter / Fuchs Titan 10w/40 Oil
New Honda MTF Gearbox Oil (3 litres)
New AntiFreeze

Only hitches were minor - the auxiliary belt from my ITR bottom end didn't fit this one hence the new one and when priming the pump, I didn't tighten the bolts on the fuel filter so fuel pissed everywhere for a few seconds.

So far so good! I've gone into Vtec briefly, and I must admit, driving it around, it doesn't feel any slower even though it has a heavier crank and lower compression, it just has 500rpm less to use. I need to give it a good clear out today engine wise, and a wash.

Next on the agenda:

Honda JDM stainless centre section to fit
New OEM Honda front brake pads
MOT tomorrow (with how life's treated recently, I'm expecting the worst  )

Then all being well, after 500 miles, another oil change and the tappets will need adjusting.

Oh and most importantly, the deposit for turbo kit is being paid Monday :)

All in a day, thats great. I bet your chuffed in in good shape again.

My mate had a white one with imported spec (is there a difference?) and he said its easily the best front wheel drive car he's drove. I find they drive like a turbo charged engine, crazy rpm so I suppose you can afford to lose 500rpm lol.

Me showing how little I know about engines, it actually does still go to 8700rpm, as it's all to do with what's in the head. doh! still, yay!.

There's a few differences with the JDM's, but nothing vast.

However more great news, the engine I stuck in had a dodgy thermostat, so that needs changing, and there is oil leaking from a few places, methinks the vtec solinoid and the cam cover seals, so more expense and effort!

Oh also my radiator is on it's last legs, but I need a new half size rad anyway for turbo fitment so that'll be going in over the next couple of weeks with a slimline fan. money money money...

I doubt it dude, the cars cost me nearly £1k already, and my MOT and tax are due tomorrow, and when it passes, I have another £500 to spend on it to get all the niggly but important bits right. :(

Cheers guys. Dropped the car off with the garage today to put the mid section and brakes on and MOT the bugger.

Gave it some death just to make sure it had a good clearout! :D Really doesn't feel much different, just sounds a bit deeper like it's cammed, and it doesn't rev *as* freely (maybe due to the heavier crank in these ones?)

Will see what the mapper says with the limiter. I've seen them easily handle 300bhp @ 9000rpm but with reliability in mind and knowing that when you push that little further you break things, I will try and be conservative..

Think it's going in tomorrow morning for MOT, but gave them the car today to do the work as the MOT/TAX runs out today so saves it sitting on my street.

They just called infact, and said the JDM Mid section doesn't fit! Great  Due to the botched Civic mid section I have on there is 2 inchs longer, hence it can fit the aftermarket Tanabe backbox.

I can't keep the botched mid section as it keeps leaking, so I'll either sell what I have and get a standard JDM backbox (standard JDM systems are 2.5" and stainless steel so good quality and the main reason why JDM's are 7 or 8 bhp more than the UKDM's which have 2.25" exhausts/manifolds) OR look for a Tanabe mid section..

It will be worth it in the end, but as anyone who knows me will vouch for, I will MOAN my ASS off until it's all running well as MUCH as I possibly can :lolz: And when it is running fine, I've always the weather to shake my fist at and moan about

Well as a few of you know, it's got it's MOT now!

New front brake pads and discs, bit of welding near a suspension/jacking point on the offside rear and a rear numberplate light bulb!

Today i fitted a new thermostat as that was playing up, and my engine knock sensor light was coming up, took it off from under the inlet mani (wasn't screwed on even hand tight!!!!) cleaned it, put it back on and voila! no more light and perfect water temps again :)

Aside from the oil leaks around the head which will be fixed shortly after an engine steam clean, and waiting for the clutch and brakes to bed in, everything is running great again!

more updates soon, watch this space :D
