Ooo cheers me duck! Yeah I think pretty much everywhere offers a free retest these days. Was looking at last years MOT bill via Honda - £80+VAT an hour labour rates, fecking ouch! Not taking my shizzle to a dealership, ever.

Well, unless I had a Nissan GTR and could afford it :P

As thread title suggests, think the MOT may be put on hold until the very last minute..

Reason being is that my crank has decided to give up the ghost. Bad times when a replacement engine costs close to £2k.

Typical, just as I had plans to sell the car and become debt free.

Had a guy around today who fixes Integra's and Civic's, and when his crank went in his DC2 ITR it made the exact same sound when it's above 2500rpm. I was hoping it was a really noisy injector, loose spark plug, maybe even something in the head, but sadly not.

I think the previous owner must have really let the engine run dry more than a couple of times, as the piston rings were going anyway, and since I've had the car the engine oil level has always been kept at the perfect by myself, and I've always looked after it correctly.

I've got a few directions I can take it, but I think I will be going down the much cheaper B18C4 bottom end route and bolt my ITR head onto it. Less revs (8100rpm) Less power (without an ITR head they make 169bhp) but it's simply a days work with a mate, a new headgasket and cambelt/waterpump, and away we go... Lower compression time. Doing it this way will save me a lot of money but I will temporarily have a lower spec engine until I decide what to do with the ITR bottom end.

Shame you cant get a ba18c spec r bottom end :( Must be some dc2's breaking somewhere surely? Only advantage of the c4 is that its common in the uk what with it being in civics.

The news sucks though! :(

Cheers dudes. Just sorted out a Civic 1.8 bottom end (170ps) for mine which I will hopefully have in my possession by the end of the week, so it will be down on power by a good 25bhp or so, have less revs to play with and will be down on compression, but it will get me by as my daily. Luckily Honda's are like Lego.

Just need a cylinder head gasket with the o-rings and shizzle, waterpump, tensioner and belt and it'll be ready to swap over.

Will let you know what I decide to do with the bottom end....
