well finally its back on the road, bt for how long i dont no, as this car seems to like my warm garage to much!!!
after buyin a new tensioner plunger and fittnig it, we found that the tensioner arm was massivly distorted in shape, so we took a hammer to it to see if we cud shape it any better as it kept fouling on the cyl head, therefore not applyin any tension to the chain. we ended up agreeing that i needed a new arm, so after another nite wasted i ordered the new arm from Ford and we fitted it all togetherlast nite, (08/11/07), i turned the key n she started, bt the rattle was still there!!!
my mate reckoned it was the tappets that werent seated in the correct positoion as we had put the oil galleries facing each other originally. so off camer the covers again!! we managed to free all th tappets from valve pressure by turnin the crank and moving the tappets 180 degress by hand. job done covers one and it was music to my ears!!! no tapping jus the purr of the 2.0 I4 lump.
so after a shower we went for a drive to flush the water out the exhaust system. we diditn get very far, got bout 6 miles away from home and the battery light came on in ther dash, i lost all lights and the fuel pump was givin up!!
so th alternator had given up on us. we got the car home by using another battery. i ordered a new alternator from road runnner stores today . 50 notes
then tonite we made sure it was the alternator by using a volt meter on th battery to see how much charge there was. it was, so i jacked the car up ready to remove the alternator n both me n my mate noticed a frickin earth wire that comes off the alternator thats supposed to go to the starter motor, but it wasnt connected!!!!
so we fitted that n tested the battery again and this time the alternator charged the battery, whooopy fcukin doo!!! hahaha
so all is gud for now, and the rs2000 is roadworthy. goin for a drive now, il update later to tell all about how it went!!!
