copied from another forum...Okay, since ive owned mr two its had a problem with changing gear at high revs.
Basically if you change up at anything over 5k then when you take your foot off of the clutch you have to be very gentle with the throttle while the clutch grips otherwise the revs just go up a little bit but you dont go any faster.
Its almost like the clutch is reluctant to engage properly.
So with this in mind when I had the cambelt changed last week I also asked the garage to change the clutch, although said it may not need changing as it could be a problem with one of the cylinders, could they check it out for me.
The result was that they changed the clutch, cambelt, water pump etc and told me that the slave cylinder was fine.
However even with the new clutch i still have the same issue.

On a short drive home just now the clutch slipping has got much noticeably worse and even slips if i put my foot down in 5th at ~3k
Before jumping to conclusions im going to get in touch with the garage asap and get them to have another look at it and see what their attitude is. tbh im slightly concerned ive been taken for a ride

thanks for the input guys, i rang the garage at the start of the week and the car is going back to them on tuesday, it seems to be quite an intermittent problem, some days its really bad and others not so much.
Also I have noticed a squeel when under load for instance almost everytime I go into reverse and if you are going slowly in 2nd. At first I thought it was obviously just a belt getting wet what with the snow and all but it seems to be getting worse if anything and the car has not been near any water today at all.

Right guys, to update the car finally went into the garage yesterday.
I received a phone call this afternoon from the mechanic to say he had found the problem.
Bearing in mind the car had done less than 200 miles by the time the problem was getting bad.
He said the release bearing had failed because the rear gearbox mount is shagged which caused excessive movement / pressure on the bearing. So he has ordered a new engine / box mount at £80 + VAT + labour (do they really cost this much?)
Now the biggest problem i see is that I had to pay an extra £70 when the car went in the first time because he had to take the engine out to change the clutch and cambelt. From what I understand there is no way he could have taken the engine out without un doing this mount. So why did he neglect to tell me that it was shagged the first time the car went to the garage?? Assuming he wasnt taking me for ride last time, then he must have not put the engine back in properly and has thus caused the mount to fail.
I get the impression im being taken for a ride here

okay im going to explain how my car ended up here in the first place.
Firstly it was due to the fact that the MR is my daily driver, really I would have had a go at changing the clutch and belt myself but I didnt really have the time to do it and I couldnt get to work if it took more than a weekend.
So I had a look on the forums for a specialist and get some very reasonable quotes but couldnt find anybody in my area, so I put a post up asking if there was a garage anybody would reccomend local to me. For one reason or another I got zero responses.
I rang a few local garages and went with one of the cheaper ones (still over £100 more than i was quoted on here) so I didnt expect cow boys.
The mechanic offered to collect the car for me and leave me a courtesy car which meant that I didnt even see the garage till I went to collect it.
but anyway ive learnt my lesson..
So an update. I now have my car back, but as yet havent paid anything because his computer had broken meaning no invoice, so when he has one we'll decide payment (if its justified)
When I quizzed him about the work done he told me that the clutch release bearing was faulty / broken due to a poor quality part, he replaced that under warrenty and replaced the engine mount (the one closest to the rear window) as it was completely broken.
I asked to see the old engine mount (can put a picture up if you would like). Easiest way to describe it is a metal ring with a rubber ball inside with 4 joins to the ring. All 4 of these joins have broken. I asked how he didnt notice this when he took the engine out, he replied that he had made an honest mistake and simply had overlooked it / not noticed.
So the main question is when taking the engine out is it reasonable that you wouldnt notice the mount was broken or is this probably bs?
Im seriously considering taking it to a specialist to get them to check the work done against the invoice(s) anybody recommend a garage reasonably close to cambridge? Alternatively if a member who knows what they are doing would like to have a check for me? (fee negotiable)
Once again cheers for the replies everybody.

More problems. After reading the throttle cable post in the DIY section i went and checked mine, must have had nearly an inch of slack in it.
However I also had a look round the engine bay and noticed a loose bolt

Then noticed that I could see a leak, so got the car up on the ramps and found this:

I drove it 20miles since ive received it and the gear change was very smooth. since then it has sat on my drive and clearly emptied itself all over the floor.
Now from just moving the gear lever you can hear knocking from inside the box. Obviously I havent driven it anywhere and dont intend to.
To my untrained eye it looks like the leak is from the drive shaft, the other side is the same.

Think that covers everything. I just want it fixed tbh.
